The search function works fine- i think certain people (who will remain nameless) who like to run rampant all over the forum and give unsolicited and unappreciated input about (mostly) pointless things would be the only ones who would use the "search threads" option. i think the idea to have a realtime server is awesome, but i don't know enough about it to know the time/effort involved in setting something like that up. It would be pretty sweet, though.
