Re: Italy [Quenched]

I hope someone gets around to fixing the XML to neutrals or something else that would prevent massively unfair starts. In my case, I'm the beneficiary and it's a five player game so maybe folks will combine to contain me. But I'm first player with four cities and all those extra armies to keep them ...

When I get a conquered enemy's spoils...

If conquering an enemy brings me up to 8 spoils, do I hand in one set in the middle of my turn, or two sets?

I joined. But really, KH, this site could use an overhaul of its reference material.

How about the ending date? End of year or one year from when you sign up?

Also, is automatic renewal required? The wording the store suggests that they all end at the same time and they have to be automatically renewing, but the wording isn't explicit. I hope I'm reading it wrong. I'll join if I am.

Oh, good. It's still a swingy guessing game, but at least a fair, swingy guessing game.

Re: Is there an option to manually select starting countries

OK, so automatic placement it is from now on. Because manual placement under these conditions is nuts. The one who places last has too big an advantage.

It's a shame. I understand the reasoning you give. But my chess games on turn-based servers take a month or two. My 1830 games take longer than ...

Is there an option to manually select starting countries?

Or to place one army at a time during setup?

In the boardgame, the minor advantage of selecting a country first is balanced by the minor disadvantage of using your last initial army first.

Here, if you select manual placement, the countries are selected automatically, so no advantage. An you have ...

Addendum: If you click End Reinforcements when you havent actually made any reinforcements, you should get asked for confirmation. I've lost a game that way.

Re: Request: Unanimous concede option

OK, I waded through several pages of that, but I admit I didn't get to the end. I see lots of good arguments for not letting one player concede in a multi-=player game. I don't see compelling arguments to keep a game going when the players UNANIMOUSLY decide the outcome is inevitable.

I don't ...

Re: Request: Unanimous concede option

When one player concedes and more than one wants to play on, it's unfair to the players who remain. When EVERYONE views the competitive part of the game over, that doesn't apply. I'll search for the thread you mentioned, but I already know that this one big difference applies.

Re: Request: Unanimous concede option

How can it be abused if it requires unanimous consent? I suppose sockpuppets could throw points to a cheater's account a little faster than could be done now, but not that much faster. And for how lopsided a game would need to be, that would be entirely up to the players who were losing. So long as ...

Request: Unanimous concede option

Request: Unanimous concede option

Specifics:
When it's obvious to everyone who will win, it should be possible for everyone to jointly concede, rather than playing out a foregone conclusion. And to do so without lack of "attendance" or waiting for everyone to time out.

This will improve the ...

As The_Man said, in Monopoly, Chance cards are orange and Community Chest cards are yellow, not the other way around.

Also, I think it would be clearer if the Chance and Community Chest squares on the board are alike (Chance with Chance and CC with CC) rather than refelcting the color of the ...

risko_ is harrassing MikeZoo, too. [mod]

risko_ has is not playing in any of my games, but he's just shown up in the chat of two of them with factually incorrect accusations against MikeZoo.

He says Mike missed "many" turns in a particular game, in order to avoid turning in cards. I chacekd the log of that game. Mike did miss one turn ...

Personally, I dn't think you should get all proud about the differences. Much of the strategy in Risk is in the placement of initial armes. Both the claiming of territories and the placements of your leftover initial armes makes a huge difference in the way the game plays out. I wish we had that here.

2 newb questions

1: How can I tell what type my cards are when I don't yet have a match (or when it's not my turn)?

2: In the Parker Brothers rules that I have, you can only get the 2 bonus armies for having the territory on the card you turn in on one card per set. But most people I know aren't aware of that rule ...
