Re: Mappa Mundi - UPDATE 0.5 (24 Mar) - Poll

Delos, for some reason the mappae pretty commonly show it as a large island with a ring of smaller islands (presumably the Cyclades) around it.

Wait,so no-one actually knows what's going on? That's kind of saddening.

Re: Mappa Mundi - UPDATE 0.5 (24 Mar) - Poll

I agree on the readability although I prefer green in terms of looks myself. Anyways, I've filled in the rest of the borders while I'm waiting.

Re: Mappa Mundi

So I've gone back and done each continent with a different font. Which do you folks think look the best and fit the theme best? For all of these I've been as conservative as possible so there is the potential for increasing both the font size and the spacing between letters to increase clarity ...

Re: Stronghold - updated 29/01/2015

On a graphical note, perhaps a subtle backglow to the names of the territories that share names with the continents? (Sherwood, Gargoyle etc.) Just to make them a little easier to pick out when skimming over the bonus values. Nice map btw.

Also, if your software supports it, it might be good to add ...

Re: Slovak Republic

Nevertheless, this is still a very good-looking map. Possibly it might be worth adapting into a historical context to justify extra gameplay elements?

Re: Mappa Mundi

It probably is the font I'm afraid, it's already larger than the fonts on most small maps. A shame, I was hoping to avoid losing the thematic aspects on that front.

Re: Mappa Mundi

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm guessing the foundry is somewhat emptier than it used to be. I'll try to post in some other threads when I get time.

I've fiddled with the coasts to give me a bit more space (although I can see a couple of spots that'll need redoing) and I've got rid of a few ...

Re: Mappa Mundi

Hopefully yes, I'd like to get as much ornamentation as possible without messing up the visuals. For now though I'll concentrate on getting a cleanish map that can be added to.

Supersize may well end up being a good idea, for now I've experimented with a new text style. If I'm keeping this I'll ...

Mappa Mundi - UPDATE 0.5 (24 Mar) - Poll

Map Name: Mappa Mundi
Mapmaker(s): Balsiefen

Well hullo all, it's been a long time.

So I've been thinking of doing a map based on the medieval Mappae Mundi, particularly the Hereford mappa and the Dover one based off of it. I had an evening free today so I've thrown up a sketch of the small ...

Re: More first nations maps?

I'd like to see First Nations of Europe but I'm not sure it would be possible. It would have to be set before the time of the Romans but little is known about mid, west, north and eastern Europe of that time. Only the south do we know enough about.

Actually a celtic first nations has quite a bit ...

Re: Church wants to clone Neanderthals

Interesting theory I heard a while back was that neanderthals, while about as intelligent as us, were less social. They lived in much smaller groups (5-10) and there is no evidence of trade or extended contact between groups. 55000 years ago there were massive climate fluctuations which devastated ...

Re: Huge zoomable picture of the galactic centre

Given there are ~10^12 stars in the galaxy and ~10^24 stars in the universe we should probably hold off on the star wars names until we find the ones which can support viable colonies. That way Alderaan may one day have its own seat on the UN and humanity's destiny will be complete.

Spoiler: Ban ...

I. How old is the earth? 512 years.
2. How old is the universe? 512 years minus 4 days.
3. How old is humanity? 4.5 billion years.
4. Were there ever dinosaurs? Yes, oh God yes.
5. If "yes" to 4, have they all gone and when? I don't know. I lost track with all the running and screaming. They ...

Nope, it was released May 06, about two months after oblivion.

Re: Province of Skyrim

Nice, but we can't have an explicitly Skyrim map due to copyright issues.

Look at the existing maps 'Dawn of Ages' and 'Midgard'. Both have parallels with a Lord of the Rings theme, but aren't specifically connected to it.

Not necessarily, we already have the Tamriel map of which Skyrim is a ...
