Also to make things a little more interesting, you could change the map for each round of battleship, so that if you win a round, you can play another on a fresh map. I have a feeling that playing that much high seas could get a little boring.

There is a good reason for this. At room temp only carbon can form chains with itself longer than 8 molecules, hence how complicated carbon based life works.
