Actually as far as I know it's color in Latin. So the English stole color from Latin and made it colour. The Americans then stole it from the English and reverted it back to color.jaybebo wrote:That is not the only thing we stole...I think we have your balls too.nagerous wrote:happy2seeyou wrote:Yahooo for the Color Committee!
Colour is the correct spelling. The Americans just hashed it up when they stole our language.
Why don't we go back one more step down this road: American/British/etc. Modern English<Middle English<Old French<Latin<Greek, call itRuben Cassar wrote:Actually as far as I know it's color in Latin. I must admit that when using English I prefer the word colour though.
Actually Dec - you're wrong - Cyan is Cyan... it's NOT TEAL!!!decoulombe wrote:For those of you who are asking why we used pink instead of magenta and cyan instead of teal, it was decided by the council early in the debates to use commonly used (though mistaken) colour names. Hence although in reality, the colours are in fact magenta and teal, pink and cyan were to be used as the "official" names. It simplifies everything.
Also, the official name is the Colour Committee

Actually, Dec is only partially wrong since you do call Magenta Pink (??!!)yeti_c wrote:Actually Dec - you're wrong - Cyan is Cyan... it's NOT TEAL!!!decoulombe wrote:For those of you who are asking why we used pink instead of magenta and cyan instead of teal, it was decided by the council early in the debates to use commonly used (though mistaken) colour names. I wasn't calling into question the fact that Magenta is called Pink...gskur wrote:Actually, Dec is only partially wrong since you do call Magenta Pink (??!!)yeti_c wrote:Actually Dec - you're wrong - Cyan is Cyan... it's NOT TEAL!!!decoulombe wrote:For those of you who are asking why we used pink instead of magenta and cyan instead of teal, it was decided by the council early in the debates to use commonly used (though mistaken) colour names. Actually, you are right that I am wrong, and I am wrong to say that I'm right, but.....yeti_c wrote:I wasn't calling into question the fact that Magenta is called Pink...gskur wrote:Actually, Dec is only partially wrong since you do call Magenta Pink (??!!)yeti_c wrote:Actually Dec - you're wrong - Cyan is Cyan... it's NOT TEAL!!!decoulombe wrote:For those of you who are asking why we used pink instead of magenta and cyan instead of teal, it was decided by the council early in the debates to use commonly used (though mistaken) colour names. But M is to big a letter to be used on the codes - as we don't use a fixed width font...
