we didn't list him because

Oh, I didn't see either of those. :)

Just remember him from a few games when I first started.

Just thought you guys might find it funny that I convinced my Speech and Debate teacher to use mafia in class.

I said something along the lines of "it will help improve improvisation and reading your opponents in debate."

Yours is like the one that I'm still alive in that isn't to dead or boring, but that is 1 of 6 I'm in currently in so unfortunately my over-generalization still applies.

Maybe it's just me though, maybe I'm starting to burn out or loose interest or something. I've been debating letting my games run there course and quiting for awhile. It's just not as fun as it used to be.

Too many games. When there is one game you study it a lot, you read carefully and you post a lot. But when you're in 6 you can't do that anymore plus people deadbeat

Mafia was originally come up with by a college professor for a class, in Russia I believe. I know of a few schools that use the 'real-life' version, that's how I got into it (I've got a minor in psychology). Not weird at all.

I can't dispute this fact, however I've been in 3+ since I started playing and very rarely drop below that so it seems there is something else wrong, in addition to this.

Just loosing interest, I think.

That's correct. It originated as a party game. Though I don't know how nights work

I think mod tells everyone to close their eyes, then tells mafia to open their eyes, then they write down who they want to kill. There are variations on this I presume though.

And I'm gonna get some practice in real life and really whoop you guys but good.

As for the lackluster performance of these modern mafia games, is it because of the number of people? Because I think endgame is usually the most exciting part of some of these games, and in smaller games, endgame comes quickly. Also, I've noticed that people are REALLY reluctant to lynch. I mean granted, you can't be too gung-ho lest you become suspect, but still, everyone plays very cautiously. I admit to doing it to sometimes, but I try to break the habit when I notice it.

In the rare occasions ive played it live theres really not many variations, theres a cop, a doc, and the scums. Basically you give everyone around the circle (or whatever) a few minutes to be talking and all that jazz then you have them making hte lynch or miss it. Once its night everyone puts their heads down, then they called mafia heads up....they got a minute to point around and agree on a target. Then it was mafia down, cop head up, he could point and get a yes or no (by the old shake of the head) as if he found a scum...then it was cop down, doc up, and the doc pointed for a protect.

Worked alright all in all.

Well, I think the main problem currently is of course the number of games, but also that they are almost all kinda at the same stage, so we get a same old routine feeling. Anyway having different roles etc helps. Personally I have fun trying stupid strategies with roles I get too often if I'm too bored

I'm not so sure about this, actually. My concern is that having weird and wonderful setups is the norm now. We get C9 mafia's, but they're mostly just for newbies, and I haven't been able to bring myself to use completely vanilla roles in any of my games yet simply because I know it would bore the pants of any player with it (I tested this theory on Josh in Athkatla by giving him the only really powerless role in the game, and sure enough, he hardly made any contribution).

Not enough people know how to play vanilla.

I started mafia in real life before here. At camp. Baically a conselor would be the mod, and everyone clses their eyes, and he picks mafia. It's not as good, i think.

Oh no no I'm not talking about setups, just about the different roles one gets. For example Josh used to always be cop or SK, things like that. It gets a bit boring after a while IMO
I agree about fucked up setups becoming the norm, but meh that's far from being a necessity to make a game enjoyable. Both can suck if the players make it so =)

When I first started their were 2, amybe 3 games going on. Everyone posted a lot, and they were all lots of fun. Now everyone in teh clubhouse plays mafia. I'm fine with that, but now each one isn't as wholesome.

I think what you guys need is a Nagerous invite only game ;).. (Not the 30 player one I've been planning for yonks because the information for that is left at home, but a smaller one which meant some people that I like might not get invites  )

Back up bitch. Im doing an invite-only. And nagerous, if we don't win that doubles game with AD and norse, your not getting an invite
