It means that the setup is randomized (semi-, since there are finite possibilites), but all possibilities are known to the players (open).

There is a link in the OP to the setup. Everybody playing should be familiar with the setup, it has some subtle cool features.

Half of all setups feature an SK. We don't know whether or not sam randomly selected an SK, but that is clearly what fluorine is referring to.

Unfortunately, the setup is almost broken, in that there is ALWAYS a massclaim day 2 or 3. Mafia can still win after the massclaim, but beware that it is coming up soon.

Yes...understanding the game set up is very very important. The mod did not just say OK we have a doc, blocker tracker here now go to it. The roles are randomized. The set up can only be determined by how players flip when they are dead.

So while the Periodic Table is important determining what roles are in game is even more so. We could have 7 VTs or 1. We could have more then one cop. It seems obvious we have a SK so in looking at the chart the mod used could help determine what the mafia team looks like.

So while we can say that some roles would be good for specific elements we can not assume we know how the mod will set this up.

Did you mean non-metal?? Anybody that is against non-metals must be a metalloid!!

I punched some info into my mafia computer and got the following results:
Username: Gillipig... username has the word "pig" in it... Bacon comes from pigs... Bacon starts with a "B"... Boron starts with "B"... Boron is a metallod... therefore Gillipig is a metalloid.

the scumchecker9000 confirmed my suspicions! admittedly the scumchecker9000 will require some calibration during the night phase but I think it is still reliable so unvote vote gillipig

I mean is this the face of a non-metal??

Can we please keep the spelling nazism to a minimum? Since we're not allowed to edit posts they will always be full of sloppily constructed sentences.

I must confess I don't understand all of what I thought I understood.
There are no metals in the game? Ah, that makes sense actually since the metaliods are battling the non(e) metals.

But is there really random amounts of docs, cops etc? I never read anything about that.

Should we start making name claims? It doesn't hurt to tell what your elemental you are if the roles of each element is random.

Only problem with nameclaiming is that sam may have given more powerful roles to more powerful elements.

Isnt that a good thing? Then we can know by name who is more powerful.. although then the mafia know who to target too.. idk, youre right, considering flourine is the most reactive, it probably has the most powerful role (and is a lone SK). I am in chemistry right now, so I know the big elements by heart:

-since the noble gases have full valence electron shells, they wont react and are probably VT's. How many, i dont know, since it is randomized. (He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, Rn, Uuo)
-the halogens should be the most reactive since they only need 1 more electron to fill their valence, and want to quickly gain that electron. (F, Cl, Br, I, At, Uus) << At would be a metalloid
-the 16th group should actually less reactive than the halogens, but here is the problem.. some of these are metalloids! So really, I doubt our logic will work. That would mean that the higher reactivity they have, with the exception of flourine, the more on the town side they are.

HOWEVER, I dont think the only VT's are noble gases.. :-$ :ugeek:

therefore, we are looking at it all wrong, I think.

Pretty sure the noble gases aren't included. And I never suggested that powers would line up perfectly with columns, just that there might be a system to it.

For instance, I don't expect Cl and O to be masons together. C and O or C and S would make sense though. The best thing about name claiming is that we can probably catch the metalloids though. If you guys want to massnameclaim, I will start and then we will popcorn through the list (I pick a player to nameclaim next, and so on).

I don't think we have to worry about the most recently discovered elements (Uus, Uuo, etc.) because as far as I know, we don't really know much about their properties because they're so unstable that they only exist for a few seconds at best, meaning we can't test them.
We can put them in groups by atomic number and say "they should exhibit they same properties as other members of this group," but that may not be true.
All this is to say that I think we can safely disregard them.

Are we sure we want to start nameclaiming now? I mean, it is only Day 1, and with the possibility of 2 NK's, it might give mafia and SKer (if we have one) a better idea of who the power roles might be.

That narrows it down very much, how many do we have left? Three or four?

WIFOM - Maybe the mod picked random elements to represent the roles i.e. if there are 11 town, he chose 11 non-metals and randomised them to go with the semi-random roles
War doesn't determine who's right; it determines who's left.

I mentioned this, jonty's defense is possible, but I also figured that perhaps mafia wouldn't be able to figure out the more powerful elements. It's tough to say. At the very latest, we should name claim tomorrow though.

from what i know and sam's comments on the role pm and the scene, elements and their power are related. massclaiming would tell how important is each one of us.

can anyone list what role possibilities there are in these settings with a sk? i don't know how these settings go.

Posting from my phone so I will post more in depth thoughts later. I just wanted to say I am against name claiming because I believe that doing so will give scum an advantage as to determining who may be power roles and who is not.

@NoS - What you talkin 'bout Willis? I'm pretty sure that Doom's attack on Betico was about Betico skimming and nothing more than that. Correct me if I am wrong! But a vote? Hmm, I would have thought a FOS would have done until Betico responded. But Betico better explain why he skimmed or he will be a valid target!

@Chuck (and others on that topic) - mass claiming on day one is a pointless exercise.

Dude we just played a complete game with a setup like this. Remember? You were the one telling us weather the game was T5 or T7 depending on how folks flip VT. Look at the chart.
