This is part of a rotor disk from the inside of the rolls royce engine. It looks smaller than a whole jet engine because a) it is a component, buried inside and b) the compressor blades have sheared off.

What, by the way, do you think happens when a fuel-laden passenger jet hits a steel reinforced structure built to withstand all kinds of shit?

This modelling (which took 68 hours of computation on an IBM Regatta supercomputer at Purdue University) shows what. The cargo and fuel are what did the damage, not the fuselage.
