i don't think using the icelandic is necessary.
the china map doesn't have chinese characters, after all.
but, either way seems fine.

on the mini map, i think only reykjavik, the glacier, and southern need to be lightened a bit.

i'm thrilled you've found the time to return to this...can't wait!

I don't know how you did it but you improved on the last update. This map, in my opinion, has the est graphics of any map i have seen on CC.

AGAIN, SHIFT & CLICK MAP TO OPEN ENTIRE IMAGE IN NEW BROWSER WINDOW

Previous Version

Changes:
Changed the following territ names:
* Dalvik – Tröllaskagi
* Saudarkrokur - Skagi
* Hvammstangi - Húnavatn
* Bifröst - Holtavörðuheiði
* Vatnsfjörður - Reiphólsfjöll
* Bolungarvik - Ísafjörður
* Höfn - Djúpivogur
* Seyðisfjörður - Héraðsflói
* Raufarhöfn - Melrakkaslétta
* Reykjahlíð - Ódáðahraun
* Vestmannaeyjar in one word, not Vestmannaey Jar

Changed the water color
Changed the map border color
Desaturated Legend
Small tweeks here and there..

Still not sure about army circle placement. I've PM'ed The Viking to see if he would take a look at the names now.

So do you like the water? Iceland is actually not a land of ICE (as Greenland is), but is a land of vibrant colors with rich warm natural springs and mineral filled waters. I also like the blue oceans, but thought this green tint "feels" more like Iceland.

Another good update...

I'm not convinced by the greenyness of the sea in your last update - I preferred the blue. Having said that, perhaps you could try a bluey-green that is somewhere between the 2??

As for the number of territories, I think you've got it right how it is. If people are overly concerned about starting with 12 each in a 2/3 player game, then it might be worth fiddling around with the XML...

The placing of army numbers doesn't leap out and look wrong; although having had a harder look at them, I can see why you might want to move them a little. Have you tried playing around with the territory labels? Skagi could be centered by moving the text below the circle, rather than moving the circle itself: I'm not sure if you could do this with other territories, but it might be worth a look ???

Nice to see you active again in the forums MrBenn - your feedback is always constructive and I'm glad you follow my maps.

Now - you don't like the green!! Come on man! That's something I really do. There's tons of maps with blue water, but how many have green! And - I think I'm leaving the territ count now at 36. If it becomes a big deal, then maybe tweak the maps xml, but that's not a concern of mine at the moment.

I spend tons of time placing territ names and army circles. In fact I develop my borders around them a lot of times. In this case, Iceland is almost entirely populated around the coasts. That's where the towns are located. Thats why on a lot territs, which I named after the coastal towns, I tried to keep the army circle close to the edge. But It doesn't always work out that way.

Anyway, there may be a few more name centerings I can do. I would like more feedback on the water before I change again though. KEEP WATCHING THE MAP BENN!

Damn. That's 2 for 2. I think I'll add a poll.

----------------------------------------------

OK. Poll will be either Blue water or Green water. 5 day poll.

Both map options can be seen in full view here:

The thing is man, the colder water is the blue/purple it is, and iceland is in a very norther region so the ocean surronding it is extrememly cold, yet the water INSIDE, is super heated by geothermal energy so i think a inbetween blue green OR maybe a darkblue purplish...

I like your thinking catfishjohnson. You are exactly correct. however, I'll give it a few days before I do anything else drastic.

srry for not responding before

maybe if there is one singularly prosperous location over the others you can make it a bonus by itself and then make it start neutral thus bringing you down to 35 territories and avoid that disaster with 2 and 3 player games

Looks great, though I think you should either have the Icelandic characters (ö, þ, æ, etc.) everywhere appropriate or nowhere at all.
Not only in some names. Minor detail... =/

I vote green by the way. Or a slightly bluer green.

Yes I thought so as well. I know the xml can handle the Icelandic characters, but i'm not sure if the general playing cc'ers will go for it. A lot of people (including myself) don't know how to pronounce those characters, so it's kind of hard to verbalize in your head your attack plans. But, those characters are true to Iceland, and that should be considered as well. I'm leaning towards the normal 26 english characters though - I think there's actually a rule about all map names being in english?

I don't think there's a rule for names to be in English. I remember that when I was doing the Malta map people insisted to have names in Maltese!

Personally I prefer to play maps in the original language. Remember even your Italy map has Italian names RJ. I think the legend with the bonuses must either be in English or easy enough for everyone to understand, that's the rule you must be referring to if I am not mistaken.

Both colours are nice but I agree that the blue one conveys more that sense of coldness that is found in the Icelandic waters...

I appreciate your suggestion, but I really don't want to do that. I don't want any gimmicks on this map. That includes Neutrals. I think 36 territories is a fair start - it may result in some unfair starting turns - but thats a risk I'm willing to take. :?
