I'd suggest you decide what map you want to make - space, europe, etc - and put your effort into just that one map. Then find a kid's point of view that would be appropriate to that map. For instance, why would a 13 year old draw a map of the solar system? Maybe if he was doing a report for his science class. How would he then draw it? Wouldn't he take more time coloring the planets and rings? Would it be on a scrap of binder paper? What would he write on it?

Genius oak! I have a great idea! Could we make two though? I think that two of them could turn out nice...

Here's an idea for you to mess with :
Doodle-like Africa (Direct link) To be fair my Africa idea is a straight spin-off of Doodle.
I'm aware that I havn't finised off the legend and that what is there would want to be revised etc
I'm also aware that the geography of my idea is hideous; but I had problems keeping the region count up
Just so that you're aware: my title turned into Arabia/Iraq.

Now- apart from the above points you are free to critisize my map

Keep it going and we'll see what comes out of this thread

If you can change it to make it original enough, there's no reason to abandon it.

Also, I just had an amazing map idea. I might post it sometime next week.

make an original statement up not just replace the age of whoever says it.

'Doodle' - the 'brand'
I'm not sure you should abandon the 'doodle' tag - for regular doodle players - it's about simple gameplay - great for quick speed games, small number of territories - pure dice luck really. You've checked and are incorporated 'inspired by' the Doodle Earth author, that's surely enough. He hasn't got copyright on childrens style. The Doodle author is getting credit and whatever happens, Doodle Earth would remain the original and most popular map, being the whole planet etc. Plus, using the 'Doodle' tag could be argued to give even more credit to the original? If someone made a Doodle map and called it something else then it would be like Pepsi pretending not to be anther kind of Coke! Andy and Oak might need to clarify this issue though.

Some people would like more Doodle maps as an alternative so I'm glad you're persevering despite the comments you're getting.

For everyone to be happy, I guess another Doodle map would need to be different in some way, and of course, well presented. Having similarities in detail intensifies the above debate. Just using the Doodle 'blueprint' is much more likely to be accepted (eg. having a statement but a different one).

Comments tend to suggest that you can have a partially accurate and appealing map yet still in a child's style. Children can be careful and re-draft their work and make decent representations they can be proud of if they put time in. .44's Doodle Africa is the kind of outline that might get more backing. A Doodle map is therefore well represented, familiar to the real version yet simplified.

The series
Comments suggest sticking to one map. In theory a Doodle map would be quicker to make, but probably not much quicker to progress through to the forge. If the first is successful then the next one might follow quicker, or a 'pack' may then be able to follow (like the new US pack) .

Choice of map
Up to you but do you want a race with me for Doodle Europe? Two new maps would be better than one though? Oak's idea is great, especially when the current Solar System map is quite complex and tricky - a Doodle version would be a welcome alternative.

Doodles
I'd suggest a few example adding Doodles to your map(s) at this stage. It will help give people in the forum a better idea of what the final product may look like. If you go for the solar system then I guess there are plenty of obvious ones, and using the name Luke would fit nicely. An original statement would be easy too. My son said the other day, "if the universe is so big then there must be life out there somewhere". Africa could have a theme of indigenous religious symbols - totems etc, the kind of pictures a child might find researching in the kind of book with pictures they would (or should) have in schools.

I think unless the community disagree that you can have Europe but I will continue with Africa and space and lets see what LZ has for us with the other continents

Give me some more suggestions I have about an hour to work on this. Lets here it!

and you have the nerve to critic my map doing the smart aleck pernickety?? those are ones of the most bad drawn maps i ever seen in the foundry. and call doodle a bad drawn map will not become it better..

please, don't think that every map-maker hate you, and don't open discussion asking to change the foundry process, hoping to quench a map. start learning how to use a graphic program, then think well about a great idea for a new map, and finally make it and then go through the foundry process like every map-maker does to make a good CC map.

well, in my opinion the doodle america of zeppeliner is too better than the ones proposed by sailor, and the kaplowitz's space map too... i mean that the zeppeliner's map is a map that can stay in drafting room (good starting draft), but the sailor's maps can be placed at least in the map-ideas, cause there's too much work to do to make it a starting draft.. but first you must ask to the doodle earth creator if he agree to this idea and give you the rights to make it, and then you must focus your idea and (i repeat it) start learning something about computer graphic programs.

and i have a dubt: the idea is to create a doodle version of quite all the CC map? (i see Doodle-Rail, Doodle Waterloo, ecc..) it was a joke, i suppose..
