I way I see it, why not combine the 2 systems. Have the star ratings, but also be able to leave feedback instead of tags.

Unfortunately that leaves us stuck with this hideous situation of everyone being Excellent At Everything.

Yes, that's the way to do it. add a load, THEN fix things =). But, really, Lack's doing a GREAT job with the site. The updates lately have been awsome

I think it would be good if we had both systems, or a mixture of them both, as they both have benifits and deficits. The advantage of feedback was that you could say exactly what you wanted, and argue with what you thought was an unfair feedback to yourself, however seeing 7-6 for example was pretty ambiguous, so to know more about the player, you had to read all the feedback.
The new rating system is good because seeing 4.7*, for example, gives you a very good impression of what the player is like, but after a game the comments you can make are very ristricive, so you may not be able to say what you want.

Let's bring this thread back to life. I personally volunteer to moderate feedback if it is reinstated.

You say that now, but you have no idea how much feedback there actually even is. While the current system is not perfect, it is better than the feedback system. There is just too much freedom to abuse the system with that system.

Well, there should be a three strikes rule. Should be able to hand out bans from the system, like they do for chat or the forums.

Yes but say there are 21000 players who have played in the last 30 days. So say that of those each has an average of about 8 games. Of those, say the average number of players in the game is 4 (these numbers are purely hypothetical of course), this means that each of the 20000 players can leave 8 times 4 ratings (or feedback). So you have to moderate 672000 feedback a month. I realize that clearly nowhere near all of the are going to be abusive. However, the three strike rule would be a less than perfect system to resolve the scenario. The fact is, that the system is just never going to be reinstated. I'm sorry.
