That's a pretty apt description of every comic I've ever known, and I've known a few.

Don't forget to consider the source with Artie Lange.... dude has a heroin habit the size of Manhattan.

And don't go assuming that I'm some huge David Cross apologist. I'm the furthest from. I just thought it was a complex enough example of the dichotomy inherent in America. There are things to like about Larry the Cable Guy (just not his act, in my opinion) and there are things to like about David Cross (just not his personal life, in my opinion). See where I'm going with this? In some ways, I do think Larry is worse, because he's sold himself out for the dollar, and reinforces some very negative thinking in the minds of his audience as being acceptable. And yes, I do anticipate the argument that if he wasn't doing it, someone else would fill that void (as in the past, guys like Andrew Dice Clay, etc), but that doesn't make it any less cheap or derisive of the craft.

The one comic I will always be an apologist for, forever and ever, is Norm MacDonald, and at least he's honest about how jealous and bitter comedians are. I love his roast of Bob Saget. The guy gets it. You don't have to be super gross and demeaning to be funny. The jokes are TERRIBLE, but that's why they're so great. I have a feeling flame wars would still be here if people were more like Norm, and less trying to really hurt people.

All the news networks suck, and everyone acts like everything is like the greatest things since sliced bread was invented in 1578 (you can guess where).

I remember the first time I watched that roast. It took me a few jokes before I clued in to Norm's set. Then I just laughed harder, and harder, until he was done. I especially loved the shots of the other comedians, and their looks of total bewilderment. Norm's set, and his character that whole night, were fucking amazing.

Yes, but don't you see? David Cross is as much of a sellout as Larry the Cable Guy, probably more so. That was Artie's point, I think. That people like Cross and Garafolo rail against the establishment and stupidity in the US, but then go act in movies they then go on to criticize. They do it for the almighty dollar. Like Artie said, they have two options: either don't do the movie or do the movie and shut the f!ck up. One of my biggest pet peeves (probably the biggest that does not involve how people drive) is hypocrisy.

Things that I dislike about most Americans:

1: Their desire to pepper their speech with four letter words. (Once in a while is one thing. once every three or four words is a whole other matter.)

2: Their very low expectations of teenagers. (Most of us try to live up to your expectations. Please give us expectations to live up to not down to.)

3: Their idea that if I disagree with you, I am somehow intolerant of you. :-s (Just because I think what you are doing is wrong, doesn't mean I hate you.)

4: Their Idea that the only one that I should care about is me. (I once heard a women tell her daughter that she couldn't put money in the salvation army bucket, and that it was good that she (the mother) hadn't let her, because now she (the daughter) could put it in her savings.)

1. "Ass" is NOT a four letter word, and neither is dammit, dammit!
2. Hey, when half of your class is sleeping during school (like the class you are graduating with) and demand something for nothing, it is kind of hard to have high expectations (especially my younger cousin in Kansas who REALLY needs his ass kicked).
3. SEE! You're being intolerant! I hate you.
4. Sure, one time, ONE time I lose a bet to my younger cousin and it ends up on the internet (different one from the one in Kansas).
"Eh, whatever."

Unless you're talking about donkeys the correct spelling is "arse".

1. I never said that ass or dammit are four letter words, although I do think that they are overused.
2. That is my point. We expect teenagers to sleep through class and goof around during high school, and they do. (If you don't believe me that teenagers can live up to high expectations, just look back in history, where teenages where expected to go to work ande act like an adult, and they did a good jobe of it.)
3. And I dilike you for calling me intolerant when all I did was disagree with you!
4. I am sure that there is a back story to that remark, but I don't know what it is.

What? Number 3? I didn't miss it, I just think that it is more fun to play along. (I have a very weird sence of humor.)
