Re: Clan Rankings - RPI Version [Updated Oct 10-2009]

Post by Chariot of Fire »

Now these rankings can be a funny old thing, but let's just start by saying there's no 'estimate' (Dako) of a clan's merit. All standings are done based on past performance.

Not many may know this (unless they are reading the same book as I am right now) but at the turn of the last century Britain manufactured 25% of all the world's known produce - quite a staggering feat for a small island. It was the zenith of empire - one on which the sun never set - yet one which was to falter and dissolve with the advent of two world wars over the ensuing 45 years. Today however, Britain still holds its place in the G5 (economically) and the NPT (militarily) due in large part to the achievements of the country's former accomplishments and not, by any means, its position in today's climate.

Now the same may be said of the CC rankings. It doesn't take into consideration the shift in power (or the migration of players from one clan to another) yet it does set out to reflect a clan's strength based on its historical value. You can't put an index on such a figure, yet it does hold weight. The likes of THOTA and LoW won't just take anybody, although they may lose members, so their core value will never diminish. Therefore what they represent will always be strong - through solidarity - yet another clan's strength may lie within the capabilities of one or two key members, so how to acount for that?

It's a complex equation - one that cannot be solved - for whatever theory one uses there is an equal argument to fault it. How do you grade the clans? Do you look at results and think "OK, they beat so-and-so therefore they should be above them". What then if the clan they beat go on and beat someone ranked higher (which happens)? Personally speaking I look at a clan and see the members it is comprised of, and that is how I'll form an opinion of its capability.

In 'CC Land' the parts really do equal more than the whole. Give me a Blitz, a Seul, a Waseem, a Hard Attack (and anyone in TOFU of course, plus many more able players too numerous to mention) and I'll show you a squad that only the dice could beat. Until there are rules that restrict a player from participating in more than 20% of challenge games then there is little point in trying to gauge 'clan strength', as King Herpes himself is able to demonstrate...one can lead a team of cooks to victory.

Conclusion - stricter rules on number of games one can participate in + a time constraint on any player (who changes clans) being able to participate in challenges = a much fairer method of determining a clan ladder.

Regards,

CoF

Indeed, well said CoF. i agree with you. It's always very hard to compare clan to eachother, because of the many factors.

Wow, a lot of LoW butthurt in this thread all of a sudden... suppose it's worth pointing out that we started a bit slow out of the gates in season one as well, I wonder how that turned out?

Between being a perennial bridemaid, and losing so many top players to TOFU, these must be grand times in the LoW forum.

You stay classy, fellas.

you guys are still living off of last years victory and prior years domination before low and tofu... either one of us or tsm would beat you guys now. stop living in the past and wake up and smell the roses buddy.

i mean not to brag or anything, but i do remember a low/tofu 1, 2, 3 finish in the major+ spring doubles league... (ran by thota members) was a fun league and am looking forward to the next one.

i hate to say this, but i remember a time not too long ago that i respected thota and its players... now it is full of members living in the clouds... but hey... whatever tickles your pickle.

You guys are like the Yankees of CC. Only get the best players and call yourself the best clan...lol. We pick people up, learn what we can from our recruits and teach them what we can... and build them up to be great players and great team play. Isn't that what a clan is SUPPOSED to be about? I hate the yankees they are the only reason i dont like baseball (along with no salary cap). but rather than money you offer being the best clan from years past. We are more like the devil rays or something, a real team that plays well together and gets the job done. But then again the yankees is just what some people like... i am not one of them. :?

Doesn't look as impressive when you're nearing the bottom eh? Of course I forgot to add the amount of wankers in the clan to the win-loss record, which would bounce you right to the top.

right now, we are playing terrible, and any and all could beat us right now, bad time for slumps, dice, etc. we in a rut, it happens, hopefully over another month or two, we can turn it around some, if not, we will be near the bottom.

Lol. there would be no point to clans if we all made it into 1 big clan. I am not going to lie, all the shit talking and competition is what makes clans so much fun. Half of the stuff i say i dont even mean (especially specific things that will go unmentioned), but it makes for clan wars, tourneys, and seasons much more fun. If it werent for so much argueing then i dont know how much fun some of this stuff would be  ;)

well if the whole couldn't do it then you'd have to say the claim was spurious at best! i may be missing something here so feel free to correct me if i'm wrong... but how can a clan we have beaten already have gotten stronger since then despite losing some of its best players?

unlike you guys we create good players, not always recruit them

once again... you guys are missing the point of a clan. In fact this is how tofu is instantly one of the top ranked clans already. While a lot of great players left LoW to make their own clan, they and us will still be great. In fact we just recruited a sgt a couple weeks ago... when was the last time you guys did that? .... no seriously?
