Hey isaiah, how's the next update coming?
It's coming, like Oliver, just been a little busier than expected!

Just a quick update to show what I have so far.

- reduced the bevel on the plates for the selector knobs
- removed the gauge plates and labs plate - this (IMHO) is making it cleaner and easier to read, though I might have to change the color of the text now
- added a new icon for the labs
- added in the push buttons for Doomsday device and dirtied up the outside of the button a bit

Still to do:
- add in the attack path from the Labs to the basic Researches
- Add the text for the Basic & Advanced Researches branches
- Put the legend area back in - will probably do it with out the plate

Simple things like grunge on the shiny letters.
You could make them look more like a button I am sure. I think I get what you are after, like a recessed button, but that red shine is what has destroyed it.

This is what I think you where after. The button has an edge to it and then the raised surface of the panel board.

So button, grunge and fish (fish is a must). Those are the only 3 things.

Mining lacks a bonus value (need to add that back in)
You may wish to reword the legend entry "a lab assaults only its..."

to "a lab assaults only its own basic researches, special researches and doomsday device"
given the new label of special research (the dials) and the the TSF is now effectively one of those in appearance and placement

Things done:
1 - Rearranged the legend area
2 - Changed one knob to see how it would look
3 - made all the text look less "shiny"
4 - Adjusted the Doomsday Device buttons a tad bit

Things to do:
1 - Add in the rest of my sig
2 - Change knobs if people like the new one better
3 - CB tests
4 - Small map
5 - 888 tests on both maps
6 - Anything else??

You nasty man, please leave as is.
isaiah40 wrote:3 - made all the text look less "shiny"
Better but the blue for special research could go darker.
isaiah40 wrote:4 - Adjusted the Doomsday Device buttons a tad bit
Cannot see any difference apart from looking better. I would personally add a circle of dark red around the shiny red to give it the appearance of not being stuck on but an individual piece.

Honestly, without giving this a close up look over, apart from the red button and blue text, I would say you are good to go.

Original knob vote from me as well. I think it fits the theme better.

Original knob for me as well.

Also, I think the Doomsday buttons could use just a little work to make them look either raised, indented, or something other than flush with the main background, just to give them more of an impression of being buttons and not just red circles. This isn't a major concern for me and if others are happy with the buttons as they are now, then I'll go with them.

Overall I think this is just about ready to go. I definitely like the new layout and think it makes a lot more sense and is more intuitive. Thanks dolomite for the layout suggestion.

Great work Isaiah and thanks!

If you could find some way to give the doomsday devices a mollyguard without too much difficulty that might help people seeing them as buttons

I was originally looking for something like that but settled on the current buttons. I will work on them a bit more, plus I will use the orginal knobs, but I will work on them as well.

Small thing after looking at the CB tests, south east and north glows on the map could do with being slightly more different.

Looking Good!

If you make open conscription +2/3 and stack that with the +1/3 for secret conscription and because the advanced require the basic you would then not need the extra text in the key. The bonus would be the same and technically there would be no reason why secret conscription couldn't occur at the same time as open conscription. After all the CIA, FBI etc can secretly recruit as can Mercenary groups all while open enlistment is going on or even a draft.

Also ... why would you ever use the doomsday device against anything but an enemy capital? if simply losing a capital eliminates you from the game? ... wouldn't "hold any homeland that matches your lab" or you are eliminated make it slightly harder to snipe someone out of the game?

Just my 13 cents worth

Thanks for your comments dolomite!!

I think that somewhere in the thread that was discussed, but for now I think we can head into Beta with the way it is. As for the Doomsday device, it starts with n200, so there is a very low probability that someone will get eliminated too early. Besides in any war you should defend your capital as much as possible anyways. But let's leave it the way it is now and find out how it plays during beta. If we find that it is used a lot, then we can come back to this at that time.

All the provisional numbers are in the OP.

I expect there's going to be a lot of stacking of troops on the capital and moving them up as necessary bit by bit to the front lines. If there's a large stack on the capital, it's possible it would make more sense to bombard a pile of 1's and cripple an opponent's bonus rather than directly going after the capital right away.
