The interviewer says its silly. His defense; "No, its not silly." I took that to mean he was senile and delusional, but in his defense, he really could just be that stupid. Either way, I think its clear he's past education. Anyone that listens to him, by default, is really just as crazy or stupid.
He is stupid, of course. While I don't consider Bible burning worthy of lynching, or even jail time/fines(provided there is no other violance or damage), I am offended by it. Moslems hold their K'ran itself as sacred in ways most Christians don't view the physical Bible itself (we hold the words themselves, not the paper with words as sacred).
We have to remember what was happening down south 50, 60 years ago. In that context burning mere books IS definitely an improvement! And, this time, it was a small congregation of less than 50 people, looked down upon by the rest of the community. That very much is progress!AAFitz wrote: At least hes just burning books. God knows what a psycho like this might do with a little more power. Luckily, his ability is limited to burning paper with fire. Clearly, understanding whats written on it has long since left his abilities, assuming its the Bible he preaches from every Sunday.
What we need to do here is continue to support moderate Moslems, combate those in this country who keep insisting that Islam is simply a religion of hatred (in a way that other religions are not). We will NEVER defeat Islam through arms or force. But, we can ensure that the good elements flourish. Then we can begin a reasonable dialogue on all things important.
There was a time, are still places, where Roman Catholics and Protestants fight, where kids cannot play together and neighbors don't wish to live side by side with those of the other group, but they are few and far between now. Islam is still undergoing that same transition. We need to help, not hinder the progression. THEN we will all truly win!
This is precisely why I am more and more feeling that there could be no greater tribute to 9-11 than to allow a moderate Moslem congregation to build a community center, one intended to serve the community much like many Christian and Jewish centers already do. We are a nation of tolerance. When one of us is harmed for their religious beliefs, targeted because others dislike them (and not harmful actions, but beliefs), then we ALL are harmed.
