you what sucks?

the mets

and red sox nation. im so tired of hearing about the greatness of the Red Sox.

I'm a Philadelphia fan but i'll root for the Yankees over the Red Sox.

Regardless, i think this season the Phillies would beat either in the world series.

We are getting into the stretch run now. Which player can the current playoff teams do without.
Yanks-Sabathia?
Red Sox- Youkilis?
Tigers-VerLander?
Angels-Abreau?

Phillies-Victorino?
Cards-Pujols?
Dodgers-Manny?
Rockies-Helton?

No way. With Hunter+Guerrero back the Angels have plenty of outfielders to cover any injury. I'd say that they can't afford any more pitchers to go down this season. Lackey would probably hurt the most, especially for the playoffs.

Does anyone at all think that the Rockies can catch the Dodgers for the NL West title? The Rockies are my team, so I would love it if they did, but I'm not sure. Dodgers are strong with some veteran "stretch-run" leadership in their corner, but the Rockies are playing some great baseball right now.

This series starting should determine a lot I think.

I might be more scared of the Rockies than the Dodgers (as a Phillies fan).

As well as Verlander has been pitching this year (and he's a Cy Young candidate for sure), he only pitches once every 5 games or so. Miguel Cabrera has been incredible. Without his bat in a lineup that has been quiet most of the year, Detroit would lose the little offense they've had.

I don't think Chicago or Minnesota can catch Detroit unless the Tigers totally melt down. As much as I hate Boston and New York, I'm hoping the Red Sox win the wild card just so Detroit can play New York in the first round. I like the Tigers chances much more playing the Yankees in a 5 game series opposed to a 7 game series (if the Rangers win the wild card it would be Tigers-Angels and Rangers-Yankees, meaning assuming Tigers and Yankees won they would play in the ALCS)

Strange, September rolls around and no Barry Bonds. Quietly he goes into the night.

How have his defensive stats been the last several years anyway? Does anyone get that awesome digest every year of every conceivable stat, including the defensive rating of each player?

I read about it in Moneyball and have been curious to see it ever since.

Stat Inc used to come out with books on the subject but have not published those books the past few years. Bill James came out with Range Factor and someone from Stat Inc came out with Zone Rating. Zone Rating is supposedly a more accurate account of someone's range at their particular position. As the story goes Stat Inc has someone at every ball game who assign's a zone to each fielder. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/artic ... ne-rating/

Watching Barry in 2007 playing the field he just wasn't the same.

Actually I take it back. I'd like to see bonds come back as a DH and then get caught using steroids again.

The Phillies are involved in 3 of the biggest collapses of all-time. Fortunately i wasnt born yet in 1964 but old-timers here still bitterly complain about that season.

Looks like Cole Hamels is back. Lidge may be as well.

hopefully the champs will be operating at optimum level during the post-season

Yes, but all 3 of those teames MELTED DOWN. I said they wouldn't be caught if they don't melt down. Of course anything can happen. But if all 3 of those teams continued to win they they wouldn't have been caught. The 2006 Tigers had a minor meltdown and lost the division title on the last day of the year (still won the wildcard and went to the WS). They had been in 1st place since May (and have been in 1st place since June this year so I'm very aware they could suck it up and not make the playoffs.)

What do you guys think is the most memorable event so far?

Devon Wise incredible homerun-steal in the perfect game?

Buerhle's start after the perfect game, when he was throwing another perfect for some part of the game?

or Manny's buble-head-pinch-hit-no-warm-up-swing-first-pitch-lead-giving-homerun ?
