First of all, that tier list I posted [and Fircoal put in the thread] was from smashboards, the same one was posted in the SmashWiki. Second, Fox is a beast, although very difficult to learn. I can barely use him right, Fox's limits lie in the human reaction speed, if the game is slowed down just low enough Fox can beat any character. Also, I {> SHL, Waveshing, and shine spike. His back-air is pretty good, and Fox has the best up-smash in the game [Pika has the strongest, Fox's is almost as strong with much more speed].

Also, in order to do the bomb recovery, you lay two bombs sequentially in the air. First one drops a bomb, and the second boosts you up so that you crash into the first bomb, just in time for it to explode and you go back the stage. Look on Youtube for Mission Briefing SSBM, lists some Samus tricks, excellent video

Wavedash is pretty powerful, but does not compare to the SHFFL. Only a few characters HAVE to use it [like Luigi], for other characters its just a convenient way to go backwards without turning around. Basically, Wavedashes uses lie in spacing.

Also, Luigi do a shorthop, aerial attack, waveland sequence with his moves, as Mario can with his backair and Marth with his forward air.

And I was going to say something else...forgot...

so how do we catch a thrown bob-omb in midair like in the in-game movie without getting blown up?

I don't really play with items so I am not sure. You press Z to catch in midair, and A to catch on the ground. Airdodging makes it safer to catch, but I dunno how to time it with airdodge. I need someone else to throw items at me so I can practice catching them.

Z is the catch in midar in believe, remember that.

yes I know, its especially useful when picking up an item that is on a platform, and you are under the platform. but I've seen the DK's play catch with a bob-omb in that one movie, I've tried Z and dodging and it doesn't work, I either get blownup or the bomb passes me :?

I just try catching with Z and without dodging, I haven't learned to catch when I still played with items... would have been useful for Link's bombs and Peach's turnips.

okay then next question: what is your take on the debate about the C-stick? I don't know about pro's, but me and my friends are always debating on whether the C-stick attacks are useless or useful. I say they're great for "run and hit" attacks where you dash toward someone and hold down and C-stick to catch them off-guard. My friends say techniques like these aren't that useful and overall they don't need the stick.

C-Stick is a viable control option and can be used by anyone if they feel like using it, however C-Stick has a variety of uses.

First of all, The SHFFL up-air. Its almost impossible to do a shffl up-air with the control stick without double jumping, so the C-stick allows you to do it much easier, use the C-stick up for the attack instead of the normal A-press.

Second, C-Stick is good when you need the control stick to DI. Using the C-Stick, peach can do a backair while floating forwards at the same time. This mostly benefits aerial characters more, but I got some use when I was using backairs against Jigglypuff [I was Mario].

Second, C-stick allows for some otherwise impossible combos. While dashing, if you mash down on the control stick and down on the C-stick, you will do a downsmash straight out of your run [the crouch cancels the dash]. The same could be done with the forward smash, although for up-Smash a jump cancel is a better idea, less lag.

Also, when you crouch cancel an attack [crouching to absorb a hit], you can use the C-stick to counterattack. Has great use with Samus.

Also, after shffling any aerial, you can do a quick smash with the C-stick right after the Shffl, I enjoy going straight from a SHFFL nair to a c-sticked downsmash.

C-stick can be used so that you can use a smash attack during the wavedash as well. You may also use the C-stick for normal attacks if you want the speed, just don't spam it or you'll be destroyed by a good player [if it helps you win go ahead, c-stick spamming should be easy to beat]. The C-stick is a feature on the Controller, so its not "cheap" to use it.

Gilligan, you should play a tournament player. You will most likely be completely thrashed. Of course, I would too, just cause I know almost all the techniques and know all the theory doesn't mean my actual "play" is good. I am unable to go tournaments, no active smash in my city, and lack of transportation. So I set up a tournament environment in my house and learn, but you need a real smash scene to be PHYSICALLY good.

Also, Gilligan, Up-B blows, so easy to see coming, but in casual play it is a very powerful move. :)

Kirby was severely nerfed in Melee, but people should use the character they are most confortable with. Although tiers tell which character will win if both players are equally skilled, that pretty much almost never happens in tournaments. If you want aerial mobility as your prime though, try Jigglypuff, excellent character, although most people thinks she sucks.

I'll use the C-stick occasionally, but a lot of my friends and I say that if you use it to often then it becomes cheap. Heres a trick though. Right after you flick the C stick, hold down Z. This will then make the smash attack charge up like it would with A and control stick. When you let go of z the attack goes.

its ok fircoal! You'll get it! :D
Once you get it with your first character, it becomes much easier to learn it with other characters

idk, she can be really good if you know how to use her, she has a 1 hit KO with 1 of her moves

Jigglypuff doesn't suck at all, excellent aerial game, and with the rising pound, which involves using pound and then mashing up a split second after (after the start of pound and before it ends), Jigglypuff can extend her recovery to have the best recovery in the game. None can match her aerial game, and her backair and forward ar have excellent range, and she rapes almost everyone's recoveries. [I don't understand how WoP works, I don't use Jiggs, but I think its using many back/forward airs like in a combo].

She is an excellent characer, mid tier, but many casuals think she sucks because she is Jigglypuff. Many of those same people think Mewtwo is the best character in the game.

And the move that 1KOs is Rest. Its possible to combo into rest, but I dunno how [I don't use Jiggs]. Also, if you miss rest, there is a trick called Double Stick DI which helps you survive the next attack, but its difficult to pull off, you need to see the attack coming from a mile away.

I was replying to that. I was telling Jigglypuff's advantages cause I felt like it, and went on about how people don't really know what Jiggly [ ] can do.

Basically, once my brother beat someone with Jiggs, and then my bro joked to someone else that the person beat was making stuff up cause he lost to Jigglypuff. The person my brother told that too looked at the person who lost as if he was weak.

A ton of people think Jigglypuff sucks... She's actually pretty good.
