First, as to the serious consideration ... I tried to combine the ideas. The first day, there were far more votes for "keep the old system" BUT your idea was not included.

Now there are less than 10 in all, 4 for your idea..... out of several thousand players.

It seems that either people don't mind the current system
OR they don't like it, but can't be bothered to try to fix it... or they don't know that there are threads about this here within the forum.

Pick your choice, and act accordingly.

I pick choice #3. If a special notice was put up about the existence of this proposal right on the "My Games" page (as it was for the announcement about the rating system), you would definitely see a lot more people here. The only reason I found this thread was because I checked the last page of that thread and somebody linked here. I haven't visited the forums too much otherwise.

Anyway, I think that this is a good idea and I would be willing to help moderate feedback. If we're going to have community feedback monitoring, though, there are going to have to be some advertising and incentives. Advertising=adding a "Judge feedback" link on the Interaction Menu, so that everybody sees it. Incentives=...well, if it works like on Digg for example, you don't necessarily need incentives. Otherwise, some special medals might help.

I agree, after-all people have many many medals for Tournament services, why not for dedication to Feedback moderation... 'Judge 500 Contended Comments and receive a Service medal, for example.

i like that idea... i mean, our old feedbacks are still available to be read, so why not take advantage of both systems? it would be a nice combination.

but i'm not a big fan of the editing thing... if someone has something to say, then they can say it. people can read whatever is said and take it how they want, we shouldn't be allowed to clean up peoples stuff... for example, if i get pissed off at a guy during a game and call him a wanker in the feedback, i shouldnt be forced to edit it

'Edit' may be misleading as a term but i think the main mechanics of the idea are explained in the main body of the proposal. No one actually changes any text.

If a comment is made and the recipient disagrees or finds it offensive then they get the option to send it to the 'Community Moderation Forum' the Feedback is then adjudged by a minimum number of random visiting users (the forum is open to all CC members to act as judge). All that judging entails is for any member who is visiting the Moderation Forum to read a comment and then vote 'Yes' (approved) or 'No' (not approved)
Once a minimum number of votes is cast (say 100) the comment is either dismissed and deleted or accepted and automatically entered into the relevant profile.

Approval should be a high proportion perhaps 90% but based on fairly straightforward guidelines such as 'extreme profanity', 'outright lies', 'aggressive and inflammatory abuse' etc.

As the recipient gets first refusal prior to the comment going live, a little playful satire between friends would be automatically accepted by the person who it intended for (no one else need get involved). It would only be the unpleasant end which would need to be judged for content.

Always lots of problems surrounding feedback .Be it with stars or text.If they just got rid of the whole idea and kept the medals ..The world of CC would be such a nice place .

well i can't see how it could be better than this suggestion Player, read it it's very thourough; we have all the bases covered and i say this with no hubris as many people contributed.
The problem is that the site does not want to change it and never will.

Rating/feedback has been changed to something akin to automated call lines; ultimately you get 20 bland, ambiguous and unsatisfactory options to chose from (which i am usually swearing over the first five of.. so i have to start listening again) in order to offer a very poor service at a low cost.
The only solution is to not bother calling automated call-lines, the system becomes much more satisfying via abstention.

1- The time period of 24 hours 'may' be too short. - if this were the only sticking point to perfection then we can talk about a protraction The key is that once a person views feedback about them they can then not alter their own feedback to retaliate. Thus the arbitrary 24 hour time limit is not so important, it is that the availability of comments to both players is concurrent and without the ability of the sender to edit already submitted feedback which is important.

2- Babysitters should never submit feedback but this is not enforceable. The only proviso is that there should be facility for any user to retract their own feedback or feedback in their own name. (that does not mean that they can re-submit feedback retrospectively, it just means that there is no longer feedback submitted in that case)
The Babysitting system is based upon trust; trust in your replacement not to play like an idiot and not to talk like an idiot. You entrust your substitute with the responsibility of not alienating you from other players in circumstances counter to your own philosophy.

Once the comment is completed, the text is forwarded to the recipient User for approval.
if they do not approve, the comment automatically goes to either an Open Forum or Special Usergroup for adjudication (*see below for 'Forum' Description) [/list]

Specifics:

• The proposal gives ability, to all users, to add a comment at the end of a game.
  They have 24 hours to make comment on any game/player (with game-link if it regards a specific game)
  Once the 24 hours has expired no more comments can be made and the respective comments are sent directly to the recipients for approval (this will prevent retaliatory feedback)
  
  This can be anything:
  - Skill and tactics
  - It could be a friendly piece of prose for mutual enjoyment!
  
  
  The Comment is then made available to the recipient for approval prior to it being logged into their profile. They have 5 days to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’. If they fail to vote the comment will be entered into their profile.
  In special cases, live Comments can be taken back to the Forum for adjudication; to cover people going away and missing the right to veto.

I haven't had a chance to go through this post in detail, but the very beginning stuff concerns me. First, 24 hours is not very much time to allow for written feedback. There are times when I go back through my recently completed games and leave ratings for the people who need them. I don't have time to go through this many times after I win a game, and it's very easy to miss when a game gets completed that you did not win or where you were already eliminated.

The second very large issue is in regards to having time to read and ponder the feedback on the vote. There are some days where I get a large volume of PMs, so PM notifications about feedback would easily get lost and then fail to be viewed. Also, having to view more screens (menus) to view the feedback is just another hassle on the busy tasks that need to be handled every time I log on. Only on occasions of boredom do I visit my ratings page to see what has been left recently because I don't have the time to do this at a frequent rate.

That's some opinions I had on this for now.

-Regarding the feedback on the vote, you realise that this would not be for you to vote on specifically if you did not want to? the community arbitration would be done in a forum/thread which could be accessed via a CC Homepage link. from there any user can go in and simply vote 'yes' or 'no' on the acceptability of the feedback.
But if you mean the stage prior to that, regarding feedback specifically for you as a player and user, then i see what you mean .. good point!
(Although i am not sure the structure of the 'Community Moderated Feedback system' should be determined by the uncharacteristically swollen mailboxes of a handful of mods and any added hassle in their busy routines. Would you like a little personal alarm to tell you when speed games are starting too? .. But it is right that we think of your special needs too *wink* *wink* *wink jim.. wink for your life before he locks it* )

If this is your point regarding PM's falling through the gaps, i agree entirely that this is not clear in my brief and thanks for pointing it out.
To be perfectly honest i had assumed that this would not be done via PM and envisaged an automatic pop-up box to appear on logging-in, once the 24 hours* had passed since game end. (i am sure i mentioned this in the thread but it is clearly not on the front page. Edit: it is now!)

Then it is just a matter of clicking :-
'yes' - thus agreeing to allow the feedback to enter into your profile
'no' - thus sending the feedback to the community arbitration forum
'ask me later' - the box goes away till next time you log-in
