In defense of the south, we have Pantera, Lamb of God, and Mastodon. Cannibal Corpse if we can claim Florida. ZZ Top, Allman Bros, Elvis, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Fats Domiono. Well, hell, we pretty much invented rock music, jazz, and the blues.

Faulkner and Harper Lee, and I think we can claim Twain.

I'm a pretty big fan of southern cooking.

Also, EO Wilson is kinda cool.

The South. Mainly because we don't act like you are racist asses. And to show what I mean the former mayor of Birmingham, Alabama was convicted of money laundering. The next day on the Steve Birmbuam Show someone said

When will a black man ever get a fair trial in Alabama

Another time on Fox & Friends they show the amount of whites voting for Obama then add some commentary about the South.

Missouri: 16%
Kentucky: 14%
Alabama: 10%

Isn't that pitiful.

Finally, a worthy opponent. I give you the music. Recently, the crunk sylings of Lil' Wayne are really good too (and the dirty south hip hop of Outkast).

However, we have Run DMC, Biggie Smalls, The Roots, Black Star, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Nas, and Jay-Z. Hell, even Eminem.

Also, as great as Cannibal Corpse is, it is completely nulled by the existence (and greater fame *shudder*) of both Limp Bizkit and Creed. Sorry, mate. Florida is honestly a state no one really wants to claim.

Moving on, we have Kurt Vonnegut, Ernest Hemingway, Paul Auster (a Jersey boy, even), Sinclair Lewis, and of course Edgar Allen Poe.
