A couple of things. #1 the first few responses to this were funny as hell, thanks guys, had a good laugh. #2, I would like to apologize, I myself have done this. It is easy to really get into a game, and if its ruined you have little recourse but to post your feelings.~barnygumble~ wrote:What i hate is alll of the high ranks just bringing all of us average players down! It has allways been a problem when you make a little mistake you get f bombs at you. Its not good because it not only makes you fell bad as a player but as a person. So to all of you high ranks cut us guys some slack!

I don't want all of the high ranks being mad at me because i play this game for fun not competitively!
I suppose it is if you don't take into account everything else that was said.Woodruff wrote: "I'll just leave and let you rest stuck in your own mindset"...I wonder, does Duality find this statement in the least bit ironic?
That sure is a long way of saying "No".Duality. wrote:I suppose it is if you don't take into account everything else that was said.Woodruff wrote: "I'll just leave and let you rest stuck in your own mindset"...I wonder, does Duality find this statement in the least bit ironic?
I felt that two letters just didn't have enough tenderness enclosed within it.Woodruff wrote:That sure is a long way of saying "No".Duality. wrote:I suppose it is if you don't take into account everything else that was said.Woodruff wrote: "I'll just leave and let you rest stuck in your own mindset"...I wonder, does Duality find this statement in the least bit ironic?
I was just pointing out that there is a difference between attempting to educate a new player and cursing out a new player. Therefore, I did not see how your original statement was relevant to this particular new player's comment regarding foul language and abuse. In other words, foul language and abuse do not lead to learning (about CC anyway... you might find something out about yourself, like, "Wow, I didn't know that I liked to perform fellatio on midgets.")Duality. wrote:I felt that two letters just didn't have enough tenderness enclosed within it.Woodruff wrote:That sure is a long way of saying "No".Duality. wrote:I suppose it is if you don't take into account everything else that was said.Woodruff wrote: "I'll just leave and let you rest stuck in your own mindset"...I wonder, does Duality find this statement in the least bit ironic?

Here's my feeling...if a noob can screw up your game, then your game isn't very good. Allow me to expand on this...if you're actually all that good, then you should be prepared to handle anything that comes up in a game. ANYTHING. Noobs do crazy things, I know! But IF YOU CAN ONLY DO WELL WHEN EVERYONE IN THE GAME PLAYS THE WAY YOU EXPECT THEM TO, then frankly...you suck at the game. You have no flexibility. You have no ability to plan well. You have no real strategic sense. It's like the damn Redcoats during the Revolutionary War, being confused because us colonists didn't fight right...but we kicked their asses because of it.ben79 wrote: So i understand your point about high ranks, sometimes they're not patient in the teaching, but on the other hand it REALLY suck to lose a game because a player can't seem to learn the basics of that game !

We did, indeed...you whipped my noobiness in an 8-man Peloponnesian. But I did noob you out on a 1-vs-1 Arms Race. <smile>ben79 wrote:i think about it and i know you're rightWoodruff wrote:Here's my feeling...if a noob can screw up your game, then your game isn't very good. A good post in all things except that Majors are, in fact, the cc petite bourgeoisie. After all, one can attain that rank with a score of around just 40% of a conquerers score.deathcomesrippin wrote:I have been on this site for a few years, and have found a few things out about the higher ranks (which I have never achieved)
First off, I classify "High Ranks" as Major and above. I feel a bit more worried when facing these folks.
Alot of the higher ranked folk on here have maps and/or settings that they are extremely good at. For one reason or another, they just click with that map. When you play them on these maps, you have to expect to take heat for making mistakes. It is just what they do, they do it to each other as well. All you have to realize is that on these maps, you must be very careful when making plays, both because they will capitalize to your detriment, and because, to them, it could be a play that ruins the game. There is no time I can remember being called out or cursed out by a "High Rank", and I try to play them whenever I can both for the extra points when I win and to learn from people who are obviously better than I, mostly because I tend to keep quiet and emulate plays that look smart. It doesn't always work, in fact almost NEVER works, but you will get ripped less for doing this.
If, as a low rank, you join a game with higher ranked players, keep a low profile. In a multiplayer game, I find caution to be the best thing against those flames. Just play it slow, even if you lose you're losing a few points and (hopefully) picking up some pointers from their plays. Alot of the times, they will take it out on the dice, or a singular assault where the dice went in your favor. Apart from a few jackasses, most higher ranked players realize that if the move was sound and the dice went with you, then it's all good. They'll probably gripe a bit, but no more than a line or two.
For the most part, paying attention to who you should and shouldn't attack is the biggest thing. Nothing aggravates a veteran player more than seeing some noob waste away a game by not at least trying to take down the dominant player. Also, suiciding is a horrible thing to do, at any time. Don't try to defend yourself to the ranked players, it won't work, and justification from a low rank never sits well. If it was a good play, they will realize it and maybe (if you're lucky) apologize for it. Just go with the flow. If getting harrassed bothers you that much, maybe find a new game to play. There are plenty of games (for free) that lack the ruthlessness you need to survive and flourish here.
