Uh... because it's a highly rural state. You'll find no more here than you would in Mississippi, Montana, Idaho, Kansas, etc. Plus, like I said above, Little Rock is one of the most progressive states in the South.

Dunno. "Arkansas" is a white bastardization of an Indian tribe name. I do know, however, that Kansans pronounce the Arkansas river as the ar-KANSAS river. Which is dumb.
