Great. Now that that's settled, what's our plan of attack?BigBallinStalin wrote:Well, now we know the limitations on US defense policy!maasman wrote:You show me the death camps, I'll begin the protest.

You are probably right BBS. But the thing is, I am now jaded. At one point in my life, I was a hardcore idealist, believing that if enough people got together and voiced their objections, we could change this stuff, we could make a real difference. But, then I actually got out there and started talking to people. Damn near everybody, and I do mean EVERYbody, couldn't care fucking less. The majority of Americans ARE ignorant, complacent twits. They don't give a f*ck unless it directly affects their little life. And after long enough of seeing this in everybody, I just gave up. It was making me miserable. Constantly thinking about how fucked up this is, how people just need to realize what's going on and then they would stand up and say "Enough is enough! We're not gonna take this shit anymore!" But that is a pipe dream. In the "real" world, shit doesn't work like that. And in my opinion, it's because people just don't fucking care, or they're like me, at one point they did care, but then they were faced with the reality of how damn near everybody else is, and just quit trying, becuase they realized the futility. And that's where I am now. There is nothing we can do. Unless you wanna go join some right wing militia out in the middle of bum f*ck arkansas, then you simply cannot find the people who feel the same way to stand up with you. At least that's my experience.BigBallinStalin wrote:tkr4lf wrote:
And don't get me wrong, I actually agree with you that America is fucked up. However, there honestly isn't much the average citizen can do. What can I do to stop the gov't? I could join a protest...not gonna accomplish a thing. I could sign a petition...not gonna accomplish a thing. I could stage a sit in....not gonna accomplish a thing. I could write to my congressman....not gonna accomplish a thing. The gov't is in the pockets of the super rich in this country. I am not one of the super rich, so I have pretty much zero say what goes on. All, I'm saying is, you shouldn't blame all Americans. You should blame the US gov't, because they are the ones doing these things. The average American citizen, in my opinion, has zero control over what the gov't does. If you are a super rich American, then you have some say in what happens, because you donate tons of money to the winning candidate. The rest of us can't do that.
But you do have the power to change things. You just don't think you have.
Governments only exist through the cooperation of the people. Without enough cooperation, they can't function (like Egypt). However, if the people are satisfied enough with life, they'll make excuses about why they can't successfully stop US actions that don't really affect them.
The only success (or probable) success I've seen so far is this current campaign to stop certain parts of the US Patriot Act from continuing. And that mainly originated from the grassroots organization, the Tea Party, and then through their respective constituents.
All else, like the current war in Iraq and AFG, and the constant funneling of money there,---all that, could be stopped, but Americans in general don't care enough to stop it.
I'm going to go study for my test, while you go have a beer and watch some TV, or read a good book! =Dmaasman wrote:Great. I think I would rather procrastinate on my homework some more. That seems like the best course of action right now.BigBallinStalin wrote:I'm going to go study for my test, while you go have a beer and watch some TV, or read a good book! =Dmaasman wrote:Great. The only thing that will turn the Americans against their own government is if the USD collapses....tkr4lf wrote:You are probably right BBS. But the thing is, I am now jaded. Exactly my point. That's the stuff that turned me into what I am now.BigBallinStalin wrote:The only thing that will turn the Americans against their own government is if the USD collapses....tkr4lf wrote:You are probably right BBS. but then again, maybe not.
I realized something interesting... when I had a girlfriend, I didn't really care about any of these things--criticizing the US, visiting ConquerClub, etc. That's funny to me.
The real thing that I want to do in life is just study Economics, conduct some fun research I'm proposing for myself, look at anarchistic "countries" as a model, and see if it can be replicated and sustainable. And/or read some interesting books, get into the US-China Business world in management, and stick with that till something more interesting pops up.
What's that have to do with the US invading Mexico? Not much, but watch me shrug. <shrugs>
