Here is small 4 territory island. They grow grapes, make wine,do a little fishing, and worship their god.

keep in mind, this map will no look exactly l like a satellite map of the area, some things will out of of scale for gameplay reasons. ;)

That looks a bit like Stonehenge...

I'm going with Camelot!!

Then again - That's in the middle of the countryside... no water is near that!!

i learned it through years of working with photoshop. For the next 'continent' I will try to make a photoshop action. Im not sure if you know what that is, but it allows you to recreate something I've done in photoshop. It may not work out but I will give it a shot. Ofcourse you need photoshop to use it.

sounds cool, but how did you do the detail...would it be do-able in fireworks?

well most of the detail and texture is just drawn in, with a 1px brush. the buildings are several steps, out line the buildings with the polygon lasso, fill with color, add drop shadow, add 1px stroke on new layer, move the stroke layer down one pixel, then sketch on top of the buildings with a darker brush.

the river is just a downward outer bevel.

the trees are a 1 or 2 pixel square brush with some hue jittering and a small drop shadow.

the ocean is just lots of sketching with a brush at dark blue at 15% opacity, over and over until it gets dark enough.

ericwdhs wrote:haha... I initially thought of Jerusalem but they had pretty accurate maps of it back then and that section doesn't look like it's anything from any maps I've seen. mibi sounds like he's implying that it's something a little less documented. Though I haven't had time to look into it, I had thought about Carthage, Tripoli, Constantinople, and Troy as possible locations this could be. Maybe it's Rome. Maybe it's Thermopylae. It could be anything for all we know right now. It would have to be an important battle to deserve a map this massive though. Jerusalem would be cool map though if that's what it is...

Yeah.. I originally considered all of those.. I couldn't find a map of constantinople and I don't think its shapped right for that anyway, Couldn't find one of Carthage, Couldn't find a one of troy that was relatively similar to this map, and then there was a reallly small one of jerusalem that I could barely see.. But it appeared close enough for me..

But i'm sure its Jerusalem or Troy.. I can't think of any other possibility.

I love it! You've got some real photoshop skills. And I've always wanted a huge map with that many territories. I hope you don't get caught up with other summer activities - stay in and finish this map !!

Alright, all of the suspense is about to end.
mibi has secretly given me the entire finished map, and made me promise not to show it to anyone. However, I am about to break that promise to please everyone. Here it is:

I know what you're thinking: A temple? Over 1,000 years old? How could I not see it?

Here is another 4 territory continent. Some people are buried there in the tombs. One is the son of a king. They also have a place to worship.

It's definitely Troy. If it's not, it would still be perfect for it. The island is Lemnos (their god is Hephaestus). The grave is Hector's.
