bah, I don't reall see a greece like surprise.

Honestly, for me it will be germany, spain and france in this order. I don't see any other nation capable of winning this year.

I think that a team like croatia can create the biggest surprise, and I think that england can go all the way to semi finals.

I haven't done much calculations to see who would face who to tell the truth.

If favorites win
Potential 8th finals:
  • Croatia - Belgium
  • Italy - Portugal
  • Switzerland - Poland
Potential quarter-finals:
  • Belgium-Germany
  • Portugal - England
  • Spain - Switzerland/Poland
  • France - Wales/Iceland/Austria
potential semi-finals:
  • Belgium/Germany - France
  • Portugal/England - Spain

Personally I think Portugal and Belgium have the toughest schedules ahead in the knock-outs(assuming they win their groups).
for Portugal: Italy ==> England ==> Spain
for Belgium: Croatia ==> Germany ==> France

hopefully for a france/spain final, and I bet that's the day my GF will give birth to my franco-spanish daughter.

I think it's going to be a final Spain - Germany, though I do hope for an England - Belgium final :)

to tell the truth.... we are too weak defensively for germany I think. Germany isn't really in shape but I'm certain they will be if they are in semi finals. I'd rather play belgium to tell the truth.

Well that was painfull, but we did it!

The first french goal was foul; it was indeed penalty for romania.... And what a goal by dimitri payet... This guy is on fire!

Amazing game from Payet, however I do not understand Pogba's substitution. The guy's a great crosspasser, something the french squad dearly needed. Sure he wasn't at his best, especially not in the second half, but all it takes is one classy pass to change the game and let's face it Coman's dribbles led him nowhere.

Pogba sucks and is highly over rated
I mean he s an awesome player but let s see whe he will be able to play a full game seriously.

Hopefully we got Kanté in the midfield !

And England, wtf! Never won a eurocup opening game, i bet it s on purpose !

Well you probably know Pogba better than I do, but though not a great game, he did show some flashes of talent, a certain unpredictability which France could always use.

About England, they played a great first half but the thing is you could actually notice uncertainty creeping into the england-squad in second term, which makes one wonder about the squad's mental fortitude(maybe due to the inexperience of the squad). If they play like this against Wales, they'll get destroyed.

Yeah, England was dominant in the first half, finally broke through, but they couldn't finish. The announcer here suggested that they should have kept Rooney on the pitch for his leadership. He was careful to say that alone may not have been enough to prevent Russia from scoring, but pointed to one of the defenders getting caught ball watching, and suggested that the English side, due to their youth, are lacking experience and leadership. Anyway, that was disappointing.

Watching Croatia now, leading at the half 1-0. I'd like to see them go far this year.

I think croatia WILL go far this year; if they don't go to quarter finals/ semi finals it will be disapointing given the team they have. They have some world class top notch players in the midfield that no one else has, and their defense and ofense are more than decent.

Problem is that if they end up 2nd in their group, they might encounter the following schedule: Belgium(8th), Germany(quarter), France(semi)
Don't think knock-out rounds can get any more difficult, not to mention that defeating Turkey really isn't that impressive(they were 3rd in qualifiers in a weak qualifying group).

I don't see what I said wrong? Is this a strong Italian generation? No. Do they have a top manager? Yes.
Belgium lost against Conte because Wilmots is a managerial disaster. 4 years he's been leading our squad, and still there is no team-cohesion and he is still making many of the same mistakes he did at the start.

Look at the post-match interviews: Giaccherini acknowledged the Belgiums actually had better individual qualities, but that they won because of good teamwork. Thibaut Courtois stated we simply got overclassed in tactics and organization.

Even pre-match I remember an article from a year or two ago, where it was revealed how our players even mock Wilmots behind his back.

ps: at least we're playing the eurocup dutchie.

Ouch, you got us there :P

I think this game was painful to look at from a Go-Belgium point of view, but it was brilliant to look at from a neutral view, because Italy did something remarkable. Congrats to them.

You dont see what you said wrong ? Look again. Look at the bolded words.
To call them shit is really disgracefull and disrespectfull.

You saw a shit team ? I didnt.

Do you know there are some world champions in that shit team ? Also 9 players reached the eurocup final 2012.

Of course this isnt the best Italian team ever and they probably will not win the title.
They can be beaten by anyone. BUT also; they can beat everyone.

ps; Yep your team is playing the eurocup. So you should enjoy that in stead of calling other teams shit.
Belgium is a good team. For sure. But your team will never get as many titles as mine team **** + 1 ;)

Granted, I might have used the wrong terminology, but you know full well what I mean. It's a shit team compared to Italian and international expectations of the Squadra Azurri. The Italian press were even commenting they might be their weakest generation to date.

ps: the italian squad is usually my favorite squad next to Belgium. If Belgium doesn't play, I always cheer for Italy as I'm a fan of the AC Milan, the Serie A and Italian counter-football. So don't take this as foreign disrespect, but rather an observation of how terribly wrong things went in Italy. In just about 10 years time Italy went from the best in the world both on club level and international level to a something not even worth its shadow.

YOU DO NOT GET TO BANDWAGON ON FRANCE TOO

I'm literally cheering for everyone other than France. Though, not because you're picking them, I was anyway, BUT NOW IT'S PERSONAL.

Sorry betty.

he's really been outsmarted by Conte.
I don't know what's up with this guy but, what happened to Eric Gerets? loved that Belgian coach when he was in marseille 4-5 years ago.

f*ck you Serbia! AoG, you're my favorite tyrion!

regarding Italy: yes, I wasn't expecting that from them; but as always, when i don't expect anything from them they go against the odds. Yes, it looked like a shit team, and yes the hadn't been playing well in the previous month. Sjnap, it's easy to come around and make fun of stuff we said a month or 2 ago when you hadn't and you are not taking forecasting positions on anything.
So tell us... where do you think Italy can go?
