I found a pretty good YouTube about all the CGI revived characters. It explained how they used an actor to get the movements then used a computer to put the characters face on the actor. Even showed a picture of the Swedish actress that did the Leia scene. I think they might have been able to just make her up as Leia.

As for the blind monk.
Spoiler
He is not a Jedi. His friend calls him a dreamer. He was praying like Buhdist chanting. "I am at one with the force, the force is with me." His friend refuses to do that until he was killed.

They were guarding the Jedi temple until it was destroyed, possibly by Vader, but Obi Wan and Yoda had gone into hiding the way Luke does. It is not known if any other Jedi survived "order 66" which triggered the clones to turn on the Jedi. Therefore there was no one to train him as a Jedi. Also he has no light saber.

2dimes,

Yes, I agree that:

1) the blind warrior is an interesting character;

2) I would like to have learned more about him in the movie, but character development was NOT a chief concern in the movie;

3) whether he is a Jedi is unclear in the movie.

When I first posted this in the WRONG Forum, I did NOT realize it was in the wrong place or that there were TWO others here in this Forum. I will request that this one be merged or eliminated.

I will no longer post here. Sorry for the confusion that I may have created.

BTW: the two others have good discussions going on. One goes off on several "maybe" tangents and has lots to consider, so much so that I have not had a chance to respond and reply intelligently.

There's no need whatsoever to apologise. Duplicate topics pop up in this forum all the time.

However, for convenience, I've merged the two topics as we discussed yesterday.

Happy spoiling...:D

A weapon that can destroy an entire planet with ONLY ONE strike SHOULD get some attention, RIGHT? That makes for a GREAT Star War focal point, I M O.....

Yeah, Donnie Yen's character even says, "There are no Jedi any more."

With Star Wars, different characters are force-sensitive. He did things like fight an entire squad of stormtroopers, walk where blaster bolts weren't, and shoot a TIE fighter out of the sky. I'd say he was force-sensitive, like Leia and Han, and perhaps he could have been trained as a Jedi, but he wasn't a Jedi.

And just because Chirrut isn't a Jedi, that doesn't mean he's not a complete badass character in Rogue One. I'm telling you, this dude is awesome. He marches through a horde of Stormtroopers shooting their blasters and deflects every shot with his cool, magical walking stick. He can sense when someone is about to kill. And he shoots a freaking Tie Fighter out of the sky with a bazooka-like weapon without even being able to see it. So no, Chirrut isn't a Jedi, but he might as well be. We know that, in the Star Wars universe, people can be super strong with the Force and still not be Jedi (Ahsoka Tano for example), but at this point in the timeline, the Jedi are few. Still, seeing another character in the franchise able to wield Force powers make Rogue One all the more fun and magical, and yes, a bit more badass.

The CGI-ed actor scenes were a bit off-putting, but that's not the first time Peter Cushing got that treatment. His CGI Moff Tarkin also appears at the end of Revenge of the Sith, too (although less believable in that film).

I went into Rogue One with zero expectations, and I really liked it! It's no Empire, but I liked it as much as The Force Awakens, and it was better than any of the prequel trilogy. K-2SO was brilliant. He reminded me of HK-47 from Knights of the Old Republic, although not as murdery.

K-2SO was pretty cool. "Kind of an anti C-3PO."

Tell that to the families of the big piles of recently deceased storm troopers he left behind in several scenes.

True, true, but HK-47 is even more violent. =) A selection of his dialogue:

"There is a faction of meatbags called the Sith. They want what any rational meatbag would want – the power to assassinate anyone they choose at any time."

"Droids tend to blend into the background, like a bench or a card table. Mockery: Droid, fetch this. Droid, translate that. Droid, clean out the trash compactor. Part of the love of my function comes when the ‘furnishings’ pull out tibanna-powered rifles and point them at the owners' heads."

"Observation: I am a droid, master, with programming. Even if I did not enjoy killing, I would have no choice. Thankfully, I enjoy it very much."

"Answer: There are a lot of politicians on Coruscant, Master. I could spend decades slaughtering them and still not make a dent."

"Commentary: Your former pupil is efficient and brutal, even for an organic. I rather liked him when you first introduced me to him. If I had known what he would do to you, master, I would have gladly removed his entrails right then!"

"Commentary: The meatbag speaks without clarity. Detail this agreement or the master will splatter your organs all over the floor!"

But yeah, K-2 is a lot more personable. =)

I kind of took it as a tribute to the old blind samurai films. Zatoichi and all that. The original films drew on Kurusawa's ideas, like the whole Episode 4/Hidden Fortress thing.
