Did anyone catch why the person needed the spoon for the sandwich? I looked through 3 times and found no use for the creation of a sandwich...

You can't use a knife for jelly.

Excellent point. For jam, you could use a knife, since the pulp will stay on it, but with jelly, a spoon is an absolute necessity.
