Thanks for some ideas.

Overall, the consensus seems to be that missing turns alters the game and generally in the favor of the one who missed the turn, but that it is possible to mitigate this and sometimes make it work in your favor.. does that sound about right?

missed turns suck in the endgame. I had a friend who was dying but had cards but missed a turn. He was slaughtered

Perhaps this has been discussed before, but isn't the best solution for dropped players is to replace them with AI players. The AI player can fill the gap and create the illusion that the game is as it was before. At least you don't end up with a map full of mines to avoid.

I know this is an undertaking, but it can be done. Any thoughts.
