This entire thread makes me chuckle.
well im glad us slow learners are catching up lol (i did a search before I started this thread and could not find a similar suggestion anywhere)
That's because I did it mostly through PMs with Twill I do believe. I wanted to look into using some small "graphical" tags in some way once the forum upgrade happens.

Optimus Prime wrote:Now, in regards to all the variety of tags being mentioned here, I think things are getting a bit overboard. I can see mention of using things such as:

Singles
Doubles
Triples
Quads
1 vs 1
Fog
Sunny
Bracket
Round-Robin
Various Map Names

...and so on down the list.
i agree less is more to be honest even if we had singles, doubs, trips, quads, 1 v1 that would be an improvement on the status quo.
Now that I'm looking through a few things, something along the lines of that might be possible as a short term fix until we can do something better with the new forums. Let me test a few things out over the next few days and see what I can come back with.

I think part of the issue, at least for me, is that I do like to put up a title that has a nice little description. What I'd really like to see is a sub heading under the title with space for this past of the description.

There's just one thing I don't like...

If it tells you what settings it has in the thread name, people won't read the 'directions' at all. Some people don't read them now

If they don't read anything else, it messes things up drastically, (or at least it could), because they didn't read to know what they need to.

This would be ideal, but I don't think it's possible in the current forum. And I don't know if it's even possible in phpBB 3.0.

I agree with Gilligan in this one. I don't like people joining my tournaments without reading the whole first post and then later discovering that they didn't want to sign up (or that I have to send people messages that sorry, you are freemium, you can't join). If the person don't have 3-5 minutes of time to read through the post then I prefer not to be him/her on my tournament.

I also like to have some creativity in my topic names. For example, so I wouldn't be limited to a certain number of letters as my tournament name. I like to mention how many people are signed up, maybe some inviting/advertising message.

When my tournament topic name looks like ZZ's tourney [3 different maps][different number of players per game][escalating and flat] ... how will it attract people?

IMO tournaments should be meant for people who want them, they shouldn't be forced to new players. And if new players don't have time to read through 1 post per topic but have time to hang out in the live cat then maybe they shouldn't join tourneys?

I'm just stating my opinion and not "flaming" down the idea but I am saying that organisers who think through their things, seem to get punished by too much limitations with this suggestion.

btw, I like bart's idea of "extra tag" somewhere.

Cheers,
amazzony

I think the most we would do for the time being would be something like:

[ST] for standard game tournaments
[DB] for doubles tournaments
[TP] for triples tournaments
[1v1] for 2-player tournaments
[QD] for quads tournaments

So, here is an example of what would happen:

[DB] Transformers Wars II
[1v1] Point Grabbers VII: All-Star Edition
[TP] Disney Heroes Open
[QD] Point Grabbers: Quadruples Edition
[ST] War in the Americas

Does that make sense what I'm trying to demonstrate? So, anyways, it would be a loss of only a couple of characters in the title area. Very minimalistic if we did it, that's for sure.

I've more of a negative attitude towards this option because I don't see much point or I don't know how many people would benefit from it. But I guess it's just me because I like to read through all the tournaments that come out :)

I myself am on the fence with it.
