I just have to laugh at this example, since Chess is perhaps the perfect strategy game. It's one of very few things in the world where there is no luck involved, only strategy. In real battles you may have more options for strategy, but there is also a lot more luck.

Anyway, you've made your point and done your advertising. There are several CC players who also play on eRepublik, and many others have already advertised to recruit new players and earn medals. I've had my referral in my signature for quite a while now ;)
You seemed to leave the part about the forums sucking out of your sig though :D

haha yes, well I don't think people would leave CC to post on other forums. eRepublik is fun because it's more role playing and more like real war. But mostly because it takes very little time and effort, and its so easy to step away from the forums. Can't say the same about CC!

Well, just to conclude the topic about forums, why would you need forums on ERep when you have thousands of newspapers and many chat rooms to say what you want to say?
But if a quality of some game is measured by the forums then I dont have argument about that... Its just sad.
And about chess, I am a chess player, but ONLY and AGAIN - ONLY in the second phase of a game you use YOUR strategy and in the first phase EVERYBODY play by the book and thats not strategy. And luck also plays some role in chess too. Especially in quick games and tournaments.
In the real battle, and I have led real people in war 1999 in Serbia you need to concentrate a lot more. Cause its human lives at stake. So chess cant be greater strategy then RL battles, as I said before,

And your a chess player ?
In the first phase (after like turn 4) a lot of strategy is involved.
Just an example with the very basics of chess:

Opening:
1.e4-e5
2.Nf3-Nc6

What is the right thing to do for white after this opening ? There are countless options, each with his own benefits and downsides. Chess players have to choose one of the many options and know that when they play a certain move, it will have consequences later in the game. In other words: Strategy.

And your putting 'luck' and 'chess' in the same sentence ? Seriously ?

That is only allowed in one sentence... "there is no luck in chess as it is a game of purely based on strategy"

The only way i could see someone arguing that there is luck is that what the other person does in response to your moves is luck but really that is just the strategy of the other person.

I am a recovering World of Warcraft player...you say MMORPG and I run the other way as fast as I can.

How much time does a MMORPG consume versus cc...well I'll never admit how much I played WoW in public but the difference is HUGE - and with a MMORPG you can have to wait (sometimes hours) for other members of your team, God help you if someone dissconnects at the wrong moment, you aren't able to leave your computer and walk around your house and do everyday life things, and if you don't do it every day expect to suffer.

I am addicted to CC but I've never stayed up until 4:30 AM when I had to get up for work at 6:30 the next day because of CC.
Think of the difference between a nicotine or caffeine addiction and heroin and you have the correct picture.

It doesn't really sound as though you're much of a chess player, to be honest.
Pokac wrote:And luck also plays some role in chess too.
Then I'm sure you can provide some examples.

The only thing I can imagine he's trying to point to with his "luck" statement is "the opponent overlooked a move". Which is essentially no luck at all, as you have stated.

If only there was a search feature in Off-Topics, we could find all the other threads about this exciting online game!

Maybe we could even have one topic that goes on indefinitely, where people can post links to get their free credits or whatever by getting others to join! I hereby recommend this be the one, since it was first.

With a name like eRepublik, it shouldn't be hard to find it with the search function, oh but only that one existed!

You forgot this one:

I wouldn't have bothered if there hadn't been two in as many days. And I don't even think it's that necessary to merge them. It helps get the point across that these guys are just shilling if you see five or six threads advertising the same thing.

No, I left that one on purpose. If nothing unforeseen happens it should be comatose within 2 days and dead within 4.

I play a lot of chess. I've been in some real battles (and not these fake "real battles" you're talking about). Trust me...there is FAR MORE strategy in chess than there is in a real battle.

Luck in Chess? Well Luck can be in chess if your opponent can not see end of game in 3 round, and that its luck for you.
Chess its most strategic game then Risk, for example here dices can ruin your strategy, and in chess you dont have dices, and if you and your opponents very good, then when game come to stalemate, then you split points,no winners.
Chess its not for lucky people, these game its for smart people.

I like how Woodruff just replied to the same dude who never returned TWICE!
"Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill."

Duane: You know what they say about love and war.
Tim: Yes, one involves a lot of physical and psychological pain, and the other one's war.
