Yes... Copy the number, stick it into google, see if any gay chat lines or, in this case, famous songs pop up. If not, try the number. If you're stick sceptical and don't want to call it just yet, there's online phone books (white and yellow pages) out there.

I get the feeling somebody has had a few bad experiences with phone numbers found online.

The opposite, actually. I have a tendency to give out bad ones (to gay chat lines)
