Re: Quenched Maps

Post by AndyDufresne »

Maps will continue to trickle out, anywhere from 1-3 a day, to get out of the back log. After this, maps will continue to come out like this, not in giant batches. As you can see, when the maps are installed on the website, there'll be a headline about it linked to the Foundry Map Topic. Perhaps this will continue to bring people in...and if people do want to complain...or congratulate...they will know where to do so. :)

Indeed, 9 more to go. They will roughly come out in the order of Quenching.

Yes, I know of your Foundry Update tournament series. As mentioned, maps will trickle out now. Usually though a few maps are Quenched around the same time, so there may be enough to classify as an "update."

I'd suggest, however, instead of using a hard number of maps like the old batch...use a time frame now instead. Since maps will trickle out over time, you could use a 2 week/1 month time frame, and classify that as the "Foundry Update of Half Month/Month," etc. :)

Is this a 'It's too much freaking work to put up more than 1-3 a day' thing or a 'I'm totally overthinking this and putting up maps in a way to better promote them' thing?

AndyDufresne wrote:if people do want to complain...or congratulate...they will know where to do so. :)
not really. I guess I'll do it here. what benefit is there to holding all these quenched maps out? I don't see any. it just pisses people off who've made these maps and are being forced to wait for them to be playable for seemingly no reason.

just put up this lot and then upload maps as they're quenched from now on

Lack didn't want to upload so many maps at a time, and we might as well start the trickling process that will happen in the Foundry with these maps.

how long does it actually take to upload one map, or a group? is it really that long becuase 'might as well' is a stupid reason

hmm i see i see... ick lol, i suppose i could do something like that, I usually liked getting the tournament up within an hour or so of the maps getting uploaded (its always interesting to see the players doing that first round without even knowing the maps existed first! haha since my tournaments usually fill within 6-12 hours) but we'll see how this batch of updates goes, however it goes, ill make it work :)

This should be order of Upload, if they are uploaded in order of Quenching, but who knows what will happen.

1. Iceland (4 June 2:08am)
2. High Seas (4 June 2:09am)
3. Egypt: Lower (9 June 1:50am)
4. Sydney Metro (24 June 1:55am)
5. Luxembourg (24 June 11:07pm)
6. Treasures of Galapagos (25June 8:47am)
7. Egypt: Upper (2 July 3:23am)
8. Operation Drug War (6 July 11:48pm)
9. Supermax: Prison Riot (7 August 2:00am)
10. Egypt: Nubia (7 August 2:02am)

I'd be happy if Lackattack rolled these out over the next 9 days, then after that we could get the newly Quenched maps as they occur. There is another lot waiting already....

I wonder also if this new roll out process will change the time that mapmakers have to go through waiting period after XML stamping?

Perhaps Andy could give us some direction on this please?

EDIT: Treasures of Galapagos was uploaded before Luxembourg.
Reason: T of G was Quenched at 24 June 11:06pm not 25 June 8:47am

Qwert. enough is enough.
I am getting very angry with you. When r u going to have some patience.
You constantly complain about not getting map qwenched.
everyone is in same status here. we all have maps waiting to be uploaded, and yours will be uploaded in time.
as i stated before, can you imagine what would happen if lackattack uploaded 10 maps at once.
already i have seen in less than 24 hours 500 games created on iceland alone.
if we have 10 maps uploaded at once, this would overload the servers again and the site would be not good again and everyone still complain because site not working.
instead of you complaining all the time about Andy not answering, go back and start making another map and put your wonderful creative talents to work.
your map will get uploaded eventually, it is not the end of the world...for goodness sake.

I doubt if all the maps went up that Iceland would be getting 500 games in one day. Many of those games would be on other maps instead. Sure it'd go up but I don't think it'd go up to a 'server overloading' level. I don't remember the release of new maps ever coinciding with a server overload.

Anyway, I guess I jinxed it with all my talk because there's no new map so far today...

I do agree that qwert needs to calm down quite a bit because just about every single map (if not all) he has made included drama about him being done wrong. The act is tired and just because things don't go your way doesn't mean people are out to get you. Everyone deals with the sometimes agonizingly slow system. It's ok to get angry sometimes but when it becomes as commonplace as you've made it, it's just annoying.

Lack has been having some internet problems in Montreal, we'll see if he can continue to roll out the maps.

Why should qwert be complaining? He doesn't even have a quenched map right now.

Most people have had a quenched map for months and have been patiently waiting for it to go live without complaining. :)

So now that Supermax has spent 14 months in the foundry, more than half of that in Final Forge, I get to sit tight and wait for it to 'trickle out' in about a month? Lame.
