bspride wrote:why dont you name it snowbound? its from halo 3 if your wondering...but its a great name that i think would fit nicely That does sound like a nice name. Good idea.
edbeard wrote:snowbound? I don't like the idea of just taking a name from another game.
I don't think that would be much of a problem. Blizzard is the company that made Warcraft, and Tundra is a type of Toyota car. Lots of names are being used by all kinds of companies. As long as there isn't anything to make people confuse this map with halo, snowbound might be ok.
blizzard is ok but not great. like wca said, it implies snow flying around everywhere.
glacier is just wrong. at least it appears to be. I don't think there are any glaciers on the map itself.
snowstorm might work but it has the same problem as blizzard.
tundra feels apt. it's similar to oasis in that it describes a geographical area where the map is based. though for clarity's sake, calling it arctic tundra makes more sense.
Not a big fan of names made of two words..... maybe.
I'd be more inclined to support blizzard or snowstorm if somehow it was included in the gameplay and/or the graphics of the map. Maybe piles of snow from the storm are used as impassable borders? And a shovel allows you to go through those areas! Ok maybe not that last bit.
whitestazn88 wrote:i think if you had a little like... white hazy coating over the whole map that made it look like it was snowing would make blizzard an apt title...
Maybe. At least the background on the map key could have snow on it (I'm setting it up same as Oasis, btw. with the landscape behind the text). The problem with putting anything white over the image is that the image is already very white. any more white and you wouldn't be able to see whats going on, you'd just have a square of white to look at.

Glacier: A dirty, slow-moving slab of ice. But tundra is boring...
Kidding of course. But glacier doesn't seem to really make sense to me. Who would live on top of a glacier? I've never heard of any peoples who did or do that. Tundra is actually a climate were some people would stay, however deadly it might be to live there. What you said about glacier makes sense to me. That probably wouldn't be a good name, espeically with the village and everything else that will be in this map eventually.

basically as far as i know, a tundra is an area the is mostly snow, but has basically some splotches of life (plants) and maybe grass and such.
ok. I'm not sure about adding grass, but it helps to know that.
Also, only thing I have to say, is that it needs more mountainous terrain. I think you should have a large mountain in the top left or right corner, and have some other mountains (smaller) spread out around the map, mostly as impassables.
There will be a mountain or two. The terrain to the left (which you can't see on this preview) will probably be more rough and mountainous than what you see now. I haven't put much thought into how to make the mountains, so I have no idea how they would work out.
First off, my apologies if I missed anything that I should have commented on. You guys posted a lot!
Regarding the map name, after reading everything you guys have posted, I think Glacier is the wrong name for this map.
Right now I am leaning most towards Snowbound or Tundra. Snowbound because it has a sort of mysterious feel to it, like Hulmey said. And it makes sense for the map, cause the village is surrounded by snow that you can't cross without getting hurt.
Tundra because it seems to be the most correct name, at least geographically, to describe whats on the map so far.
Snowstorm and Blizzard would probably be too difficult to work out. The image is already so light, any attempt to put fog or snow over the map would leave me with a white square. And you can't easily play risk on a white square. Still considering those two, I'm just not sure how I would work the name into the graphics.
Just did a bit of math, if we keep posting at this rate, we will be going at an unheard of 115 posts per day (give or take a few). Thats ridiculous
30 posts in just about 6 hours 15 minutes.
