Exactly.
NONE of them were George Walker Bush. Sounds like precedent, if you ask me.

He isn't George W. Bush.

Wait, we already had that.

The dumbest thing you have ever heard? Please for 100 million dollars, without google, example why one of the other candidates selected would have been a better choice.

A million bucks is a million bucks..

I think it's kind of silly to give Obama the prize, but I understand it. He is certainly pushing for peace in a way that is in spirit with the prize. Though I wonder whether he was truly the best choice as there have to be people who have actually had accomplishments, Obama may not be as terrible a choice for this particular thing as he would appear at first glance.

That said, I have no respect for the Nobel organization for a number of reasons..

Agreed, but not necessarily because of this incident.

This just goes to show people have an unhealthy obsession with their new savior and god Obama...

EDIT: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10 ... pert-says/

Fox has a great article about it, including a great quote from obama
Obama wrote:In a brief statement in the White House Rose Garden on Friday, the president said he does not "view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments," but rather as a recognition of goals he has set for the United States and the world.
So even Obama realizes it's not for what he did in 12 days, but for what he wants to do. People are so obsessed with him, that he gets prizes for what he wants to do...before he even does it.
Only two other sitting presidents, Theodore Roosevelt in 1906 and Woodrow Wilson in 1919, have been awarded the prestigious Peace Prize. Roosevelt was honored largely for brokering an agreement between Russia and China, and Wilson took the award for his role in ending World War I and creating the League of Nations.

It's far too early to compare Obama to either of his predecessors, said Allan Lichtman, professor of history at American University.

"They're not comparable," Lichtman said. "[Roosevelt and Wilson] were six or seven years into two-term presidencies, and Obama has not completed a single year of his presidency, so it makes very little sense."
Obama was 12 days in, these other guys were there for six or seven years. The award is now worthless.

Dang! I wish I was black...then I could get up and read in a godlike way some speaches written for me by my wife michelle and extend my arms towards heaven as the world crowns me king of peace and health and life and beauty.

I am going to puke ....I am sure the founder of the noble peace prize had a different Idea than this when He instituted it...Now we give the peace prize to the most popular political figure at the time not to anyone who has actually promoted peace.

That it does..

Still, he's went around the world embarrassing the United States on his apology tour. He's also pushing for sweeping cuts in our nuclear arsenal...

Though I think these moves are mistakes, I can see how the Nobel committee would think this made him deserving of the prize.

Neville Chamberlain tried to keep the peace, he never won an award...

I'm pulling for Dana White to win the next one!

Yes. Because I am the Nobel Peace Prize Committee. And Obama is an agent of the Swedish secret service! I, for one, welcome our new Swedish overlords!!!

There are plenty of rational ways to go about questioning why Obama deserved the Prize (I am, although we are all ignorant of who the other nominees were) but to go about it by simply attacking the integrity of the Nobel Prize (as seems to be the rule among mainstream conservatives) is just off. It is an established honor and an outstanding recognition of one's positive impact on the world. I thought you would be against denigrating it for purely partisan means. Well.

Congratulations to all the 2009 Nobel Laureates!

(the founder of the Nobel Peace Prize was named Nobel. Fostering international diplomacy [what this award was given for] and cooperation between peoples was EXACTLY what he had in mind!)

No kidding and all this Obama worship is getting a little sickening. The story about those people in Michigan fighting over money they think that the president is going to personally send them, those kids who were taught to sing praises to Obama's name, Libya's leader saying he wishes Obama could be leader forever. So much for separation of church and state. The Democrat Party is no longer a political party - it's a religious cult!!

The Nobel organization has been somewhat of a joke for some time know, particularly because of the kinds of people that win the peace prize.

Don't be surprised if conservatives begin to pick up on this because what happened here.

You might as well just say what you mean, ie, Gore and Carter getting a prize = conservatives think it must be a joke.

The peace price to Obama?

This is utterly ridicilous... He hasn't accomplished much so far, and has certainly not deserved this distinguished prize. Don't get me wrong, i don't have anything against Obama. Yet. But c'mon? The PEACE PRICE? Right...

You know what this is? A reward to the american public for getting rid of the republicans in the white house. And perhaps a way for norway to get a high profile visitor.

It's bullshit.

Again, id offer the same 100 million dollars to you that i offered bedub, if you can explain without googling, what one of the other nominees did that was more worthy of winning the award. If you cant, then really your getting riled up over something that is essentially to you, a non-issue.

I don't even know who else was nominated. The thing is, I don't know what any of the other people has done, because I'm not familiar with them, but I am familiar with the winner, and I KNOW he hasn't done, didn't do, ANYTHING in 12 days to deserve the nomination/award.

The point is, without knowing anything about who is nominated, without knowing anything about what the criterion for the award are, without it having any releveance to your life 364 days a year, and probably 8 to 9 years out of 10, you really have no grounds for criticizing any of the selections in a reasonable fashion.

the fact that you dislike obama, basically means youd probably come out for just about any thread that gave him an award, especially if it was something like the Nobel Peace Prize, but youd probably do the same if it was the Mcnaughton Global Justice Award as well.

I hope he does the work and accomplishes enough in the next 3 years that he actually deserves an award such as this. It would be great if he was able to accomplish that. The reason I'm able to criticize, is because in the first 12 days, HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING! Can't you understand that? I don't have anything against him getting an award, I just have something against him getting an award for doing nothing. It would be like me, in college, talking about this great paper I'm going to write, and getting an A for it, even before I write it! Can't you see? You shouldn't be rewarded for something you haven't done yet. Just talking about it isn't enough....YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING.

Just because he was nominated a while ago doesn't mean they can only take those twelve days into consideration.

Also, you should do some Wikipediaing of what exactly the Nobel Prize is about.

I think quite a few of you don't know what the hell you're talking about.

You dont actually know what your talking about is the issue at hand. Nomination requests are sent out in advance, and it is quite likely that the group who did the nominated (a likely to be very pro obama group) saw the rhetoric toward opening up engagment and diplomacy with other countries as a step toward peace. The fact that he was ending transformational diplomacy (which in and of itself is a stance closer toward peace) coupled with his stances toward disarming coupled with the position he was taking during phase when people were putting together nominations = highly nominated. Your looking at it the wrong way. The fact that the group was built upon the type of rhetoric (as much as action) that Obama was using made him a very likely award winner from the get go. It would have been surprising had he not won the award this year or next to be honest.
