But, on a serious note I'll answer that question.

Technically, it's defined as a unit of culture that is transmitted in someway.

E.g. All the Leonidas photoshops that spawned as a result of 300 are memes.

But, in this sense and internet meme means some words/pictures/flash files/shock sites/whatever really that spreads all around the internet pretty much like a fad.

The town were busy throwing votes this way and that, shouting and seeming to have speech impediments. During this time the Mayor of the town figured that the town needed help, lots of it. Thus he had decided to assign people jobs to help root out and protect the citizens from the hidden murderers.
Mayor dood: My citizens! It appears things are getting desperate, in our hour of need I have decided it would be best to select a few trusted citizens to watch over us while we sleep! As such, first thing is first. I will assign one person cop-like duties, to watch out and try to find these murderers before they can strike again. You there *points*

Mayor: Yes you, you will be our cop. You must stay out tonight and try to find who has been lurking around our fair city!
Meme: Cool... Do I get to shoot people?
Mayor: No
And now, I have also decided to assign a doctor to watch us during the nights to make sure we don't suffer any ill health. You there, you shall be our new protector!

And with that, the citizens had someone to patrol the city and watchout for evildoers while another lurked around to protect the fair cities somewhat stupid citizens. [size=0]*Just trying to hide the fact I forgot to include a cop and a doc in this game. Whoopsies![/size]
