'Tis a lesson you should heed, try, try again.mpjh wrote:Looks like Deja Vue all over again.

Sure I do, read on Macduff...mpjh wrote:You have no evidence that any of this is more than shear coincidence.
That's quite the sob story, I wish I had a pen and paper handy to write it down so I could read it whenever I think I have it bad. Anyhow, here's the evidence you requested sir:We have also entered into a period of severe economic contraction. Schools are losing students. People with jobs a working more hours. Computer access at work is severely restricted. I could go on. You can pick and chose all you want, but without surveys or some other objective evidence, you are just pissing into the wind.
Sorry. you haven't shown a thing. Better beef up on your stats class notes.e_i_pi wrote:Sure I do, read on Macduff...mpjh wrote:You have no evidence that any of this is more than shear coincidence.That's quite the sob story, I wish I had a pen and paper handy to write it down so I could read it whenever I think I have it bad. Site: 12month, 6month, 3month, 1month, 1week
(Percentage traffic, multiplied by a factor of 1000)
CC: ~4.6 -> ~3.5 -> 4.0 -> 3.9 -> 3.4
LG: ~3.0 -> ~3.5 -> 3.9 -> 3.0 -> 3.8
SGN: ~0.1 -> 1.0 -> 0.9 -> 1.0 -> 1.0
Notice how CC has mostly contracted, but it's main two competitors have remained steady or increased? How come the global economic crisis, famous for rendering people short of twenty-five bucks, has affected CC and not LG or SGN? I mean, in the past 12 months, CC has contracted by about 30%, LG has expanded by about 30%, and SGN has shot up 900%. I guess LG and SGN must just have lucky dice eh...
Why do I have the feelling it has been a long time since you were truly unemployed?mpjh wrote:I find the "adventure" becomes more available when not working. I think it is the sympathy factor.
Actually been unemployed since 2003, well retired. But recently started looking for my third career and have sense of what it involves. My wife's sympathy comfort almost made me want to stop looking for a job and keep the situation permanent. But I did find some work with the local organization helping homeless veterans.PLAYER57832 wrote:Why do I have the feelling it has been a long time since you were truly unemployed?mpjh wrote:I find the "adventure" becomes more available when not working. Among other issues, while yes, most people do start out pounding the pavement, after a few months, you start to give up. Plus, as CC's motto says, you don't necessarily have to spend hours here. You can take a quick turn, peruse a few threads while on hold, etc. One reason my play is pretty variable is that I do play while doing other things, thinking about other things.
Further, as was said above, your options are limited once umemployed, unless you happen to be live in a well-endowed metropolitan area. For me to go to the movies cost a minimum of $6 for one adult, $4 for a child. Getting a sitter means another $15.00. Even renting a video costs $3, not counting gas. The library is 10 miles away, so it uses gas.
All told, $25 for a year is a pretty good deal.

Says the guy who attributes it all to the economy.mpjh wrote:Basic stats -- correlation does not prove causation. You haven't even show correlation.

By kicking off a debate about how CC is better than all other gaming sites and any drop in traffic is coincidental and caused by the global depression? I think you're trying to derail this.mpjh wrote:I actually like DM and am sorry to see him go. I am simply participating in trying to bring the discussion about his demise down to reality and away from the drama pit.

In this case there are two reasonable general views, and one unreasonable one.mpjh wrote:I haven't attributed it to anything. I have simply offered an alternative hypothesis of causation. The point being that you have not fully considered all reasonable possibilities.
The admins hardly ever visit the forums, and the owner has dropped from public sight completely. I sort of wonder how they could have seen anything, seeing how they're never around to actually take a look. I don't know if you're aware, but you bring up a point that is being strongly criticized both in the GD discussions and in Sugs&Bugs, namely the fact that under this rigid yet strongly subjective and biased escalating system of punishments a figurative straw may earn a person a permaban because they burned an equally figurative haystack 2 years earlier (with the haystack's owners implicit approval) and got a slap on the wrist for that.clapper011 wrote:while I may agree with you in some ways about how he was banned... Yes, in a manner of speaking (i.e., the perma-ban may have been in concordance with the site guidelines and punitive system, but the mindset behind his expulsion and the system which facilitated it are both faulty in my opinion).clapper011 wrote:thanks for confirming every reason why dm was banned in one extremely long, boring post chaosYet some of you are still going to claim he is innocent and wrongfully banned by the administrators and owner of this site!

Hey, maybe.mpjh wrote:I would agree that speculation is pointless.
Also I suggest that concluding that all the change in membership is due to incompetent moderating is really just speculation.
There are also some more possibilities you have not considered:
1. The economy has changed and people's ability to participate is hampered.
2. The game players have stayed and those seeking other forms of entertainment have left.
3. Farming and abuse of newbies has taken its toll.
4. People considering the site got turned off by the gross and obscene nature of some of the forum discussions.
5. This is a normal cyclical swing often experienced by gaming sites.
There are a few more but that can get you started.

Or people considering the site got turned off by the harsh, draconian nature of some of the forum management decisions?mpjh wrote: 4. People considering the site got turned off by the gross and obscene nature of some of the forum discussions.

Well, remain seated on your balsawood throne there bud. I'm sure the 45% drop in traffic over 12 months is all due to the economic crisis. I'm also sure that if this same turn of events had occurred 5 years ago, it would have been due to terrorists, and 50 years ago, due to Communists. Bravo on your logic and reasoning. You are unparalleled amongst invertebrates.mpjh wrote:Basic stats -- correlation does not prove causation. You haven't even show correlation.

QFT. Not that I'm hanging your balls out there jijm, but I think it's important to throw support behind such an outlook. The relevance of the mods in this forum is fast approaching that of their relevance in FW, God bless it's soul. Maybe Turtle Soup (stupid fucking name) is next to go. What then? GD? Foundry? Tournaments? Hell, let's get rid of everything except the admin forums, then the site will be friendly, hallelujah!jiminski wrote:chaps, try not to feed the Mod-Troll.
heheh, What a proud day for the site, they have recruited their own troll for official use... Ironic to discover the Mod-Troll in this thread, Mustard would have done the job so much better.
