My favorite is typing "Good game" after my turn in the first round of a Napoleonic Europe 1v1 game.

Why does no one here think necrobumping is weird?

I play a lot of 1 vs 1 AOR2 with fog. Oftentimes, I really don't know if I will win or my opponent will win , but I DO know the game will be over in a turn or so. So, I say "gg" or "win or lose, either way --gg".

But here is something else. Occasionally, "some people" (who shall remain nameless) might use that in a fog game to give the impression that they are worse off than they are.

What's wrong about that is when people type it even when they don't think it was a good game.

People who say nothing when you greet them, when you give them a compliment for a nice trap and when you say gg (before the game is over, since otherwise they wouldn't see it), they are douchebags.

I believe this is a matter of obligation and etiquette. Or it's just become part of our game routine, in which case typing in 'gg' is completely void of value.

Many times once the game is over people don't look at chat anymore. Sometimes I say GG before the game is actually over to make sure my opponent sees it. I'm afraid to say that your subjective (and immature) opinion on the matter won't make me stop doing it.

Though I have become weary of doing it in esc, as good players have held a grudge against me for me saying gg in a way that states I though I'd lost, only to come back and win. Some people go ballistic over that, which I think is ridiculous, but oh well. So for esc games I try to wait till the last man is dead, otherwise I see no reason not to write something to my opponent when he'll actually read it.

Anyway, part of the issue seems to be a pervasive misconception that "gg" somehow means "I won" or "I give up". As noted above, many people see it as a "thank you" and try to say it in advance so it will be seen. And.. a few may put it down, in fog, to try and give the impression the game is about to end, even if it is't.

At any rate, anyone who gets upset at a premature "gg" is someone just a bit TOO prickly, sorry.

Oh, I wasn't disagreeing with that, not at all. Was just disagreeing with the one specific point that I quoted, nothing more.

Nobody should get upset over any kind of courteous overture, even if it's misplaced.

I never type gg, for some reason, texting is not my thing in game comment boxes. But, yeah, i usually wait for the outcome, although sometimes I congratulate my opponent who has 100 troops to my 5 before his turn. And that game, he won by taking castles in Feudal and didn't even eliminate me. That dude got over 400 points because it was 8 player game.
