GRID

Post by Riskmaster101 »

Map name: GRID

Designers: Riskmaster101 (Concept and Design) crazymilkshake5 (Graphics and XML)

Number of Territories: 225 (144 normal territs, 77 letters used to make words, 4 Double Bonuses DB's)
Special Features:

ALL NORMAL TERRITS ARE NEUTRAL 1's. OR OWNED BY PLAYERS AT DROP.
ALL LETTERS ARE NEUTRAL 2's.
ALL DB's ARE NEUTRAL 10's.

BONUSES: 7 letter words = +10 deploy per. There are 2 on the map.
6 letter words = +8 deploy per. There are 2 on the map.
5 letter words = +6 deploy per. There are 5 on the map.
4 letter words = +4 deploy per. There are 4 on the map.
3 letter words = +3 deploy per. There are 2 on the map.
2 letter words = +2 deploy per. There are 5 on the map.
DB's = double every bonus held, THIS DOES NOT DOUBLE ARMIES EARNED BY TERRITS.

(Example: I hold a DB with no letter bonuses and 14 territs, I still receive 4 armies. Example 2: I hold a 3 letter word and a 4 letter word and DB with 16 territs, I receive 3 + 4 (letter bonuses) X 2 (DB) + 5 (territs) = 19 armies.)

ALSO, a player can hold more than 1 DB, but bonuses will still ONLY be doubled.

Normal bonus for territs, +1 for every 3 after 9. No less then 3 per turn.

What Makes This Map Worthy of Being Made: This map is a creative and fun take on a classic word game. It has balanced gameplay and a fun set up. This map should be made so I can enjoy playing on it :)

1 more update to go. Need to fix spelling of Bonuses*, add 0's before single digit numbers, and xml shadows for troops. With up-lifting feedback, this update will be taken care of quickly and we can keep this map moving.

Cheers,
-Risk

Well once we post the next update (0's in front of single digits, shadows for troops, and a spelling fix on bonuses*) what should we do next to get stamped?

You know what would really be neat and not even come close to infringing upon copy rights etc...

Think about doing this as a word search. Use clan names and other CC related terms etc... This would also enable you to have lots of potential bonuses. You could do more with it than this format.

but what if someone playing the map had epilepsy? then they could get the bonuses confused and messed up, its a good idea tho

I word search would be cool, however it would be miserable to play with FOG until you have the map memorized.

You aren't very patient, are you? Well, good luck with the rest of the Foundry process! Hahahahaha...

Anyway... I think you should consider another project; I'm just not sure a Scrabble-esque map would appeal to the masses, and I frankly don't see the gameplay as being too particularly entertaining, to be honest. I admire your enthusiasm, I just think it would be better placed behind a better concept.

Hm, well, try working on the graphics more. The background is ugly and needs to be changed. Your colours choices aren't very interesting either, and the playable area looks dull. The grid letters and lower numbers (10-15) are really pixelated and messy for some reason.

I don't really know what to say about the gameplay. It's not really a kind of map I'd play, so I'll let someone else comment on that. Although I can say that you should probably have some impassables, and some more bonuses - there seems to be many areas with lots of empty squares, kind of like wastelands that no one wants.

To be fair, there are a lot of boring themed maps like crossword and chinese checkers that are as basic as they can get and yet they were passed?

Yes there are. If you look, Crossword and Chinese Checkers were passed in the very early days of CC. Standards have changed, even though some slipped through.

To be honest I think that it would be best to put your energies towards some other topic. There are quite a few abandoned maps that are good ideas sitting in the Recycling Box. As a matter of fact Rih0 is wanting someone to take over his Mediterranean map pack.

One concern I have is that we already have a crossword map, which is similar to this but this actually has words, and the crossword map isn't all that popular. So I'm not too sure that CC really needs this map. I think your efforts might be better spent on another map idea.

i mean no offence but obviously the person taking care of graphics on this map has very little skill.
until that person proves that he/she can come up with decent graphics there's no way this map should be stamped and moved to the main foundry.

so brush up on the graphic skills, read lots of tutorials, learn photoshop/gimp and keep updating the map. when it reaches a point where people are confident you have the skill to take the map all the way to quench then it shall be moved.
otherwise if the map is moved now, it will only clutter up the main foundry, you'll be given false hope of progress and the map will sit and sit and wait in the main foundry for months because it will never get the graphics badge.

again, i mean no offence, just an honest advice from somebody who had no idea how to use paint when first came to the foundry. i had to learn the hard way what map making means. :)

ya, i am trying to get better with GIMP, but i do agree with DiM, it will just take up space on the forum, so go ahead and move it to the recycle bin. (put it on a however long vacation please)

[Moved]

It would appear that development of this map has stalled. If the original mapmaker wants to continue with the map, then one of the Foundry Moderators will be able to help put the thread back into the Drafting Room, after an update has been made. ;-)
