In January - barely seventy-two hours after taking complete control of the machinery of the United States government - President Donald J. Trump's Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt - cousin of the anti-Vietnam War activist Bob Greenblatt - said that the United States "expressed serious concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza."notyou2 wrote:Saxi, what is Trumps opinion of the Palestinians, and the treatment of them by the Israelis?
Daddy would have made more progress by now, however, the endless braying of conspiracy theories by the enemy means he has to keep his base solid and, unfortunately, that means not ruffling the feathers of the evangelical lunatics. Every indication he's given is that we'll see more progress towards Palestinian liberation after he wins the mid-term elections, and even more after his second term begins. There are domestic enemies that have to be destroyed and we appreciate him needing room to do that first. He still has to operate within the slow limits imposed by the law, at least for the time being.“If Hillary Clinton had been elected, the Palestinians would now be meeting with [former Middle East envoy] Dennis Ross to discuss small confidence-building steps in the West Bank,” Nathan Thrall, author of the recently released book, The Only Language They Understand: Forcing Compromise in Israel and Palestine, told me. “It would amount to putting a pretty face on basically the same [Israeli] occupation, slightly adjusted, while putting off any potential resolution of the conflict for at least four years.”

I agree! The running of that bureaucracy sucks up resources that could be better served actually serving disaster victims!Duk wrote:I don't think you need FEMA at all.
See, you say this as if it's gospel truth. I don't know if that's true or not. I have no idea how long it takes to gather millions of tons of supplies, food, medicine, building supplies, etc etc. I have no idea how long it takes to gather up the transport for all those supplies and I'm not sure how long it would take for those transports to actually deliver said supplies. I have no idea how long or how difficult it would be to distribute said supplies in the disaster zone in an efficient and wise manner.Duk wrote:Biff's half-hearted response to giving aid to America's largest non-state possession was slow, miserly, and cynical.
So, lemme get this straight. If Trump said to the Red Cross "here ya go, here's a few billion dollars. You guys go fix PR". You'd be all thumbs up, heaping praise upon Trump for his wise and virtuous action? Har! I think not. Even if the Red Cross were the most efficient sons of bitches at disaster relief, the relief is still not going to come quick enough. It can't come quick enough because the people needed it right now! And by right now I mean in the first minute that the hurricane moved off. Such relief is impossible unless you've already gathered up the essential supplies and have them on hand and in your possession at that moment.Duk wrote:The Canadian government quite often just throws a huge pile of cash at the Red Cross and says, "here, you worry about what to do next." It's not perfect, but it works.

Incompetence and a desire to squeeze Alberta for votes by manufacturing a crisis in which Trudeau could present himself as the savior.patches70 wrote:saxitoxin wrote:Maybe this is how, during the Fort McMurray Wildlife (which Canada only took one year and three months to put out), Trudeau refused all foreign aid offers even as 100,000 people had to abandon an entire city. I remember when that happened! I remember seeing the pictures and the video. It was a massive fire if I recall. However, I had no idea it had been burning all this time.
That's hilarious. Was there something like a giant pile of tires that caught fire or something? Why'd it take so long to put out?

I said several times that if I had the misfortune to be faced with a choice of only Clinton and Trump, I would vote for Trump as the lesser of two evils. That doesn't mean I would ever lower myself to praising him. I would simply hold my nose, cast my ballot for him, and then go outside to vomit. I would be honest and say, "Yes, he's a despicable piece of shit, but he's marginally better than that other piece of shit over there."
I understand that a two-party system forces you to sometimes make unpalatable choices between two steaming piles of shit. It doesn't make it right to sing songs of praise to an evil man. Every day you need to say, "the lesser of two evils is still evil."
