Sorry, I mis-spoke. I should have said that yellows, blues, and reds are starting territories, not positions. Yellow and blue and starting positions. The reds are unassigned territores which will be split among the player 1, player 2, and neutral.

As there are only two coded starting locations, three or more player games will ignore the positions and it'll be a free-for-all, as in any other map.


That is a great idea. It's a very interesting way to ensure a balanced start in a 1v1 game! =D>

For the most part they are, and they run east to west, right to left. The Grand Canyon isn't right on the route, but it's probably the biggest tourist attraction in the vicinity of the highway, if not the biggest tourist attraction in the country.

I'd like to get the Hoover Dam included on the map somehow - also off the route, but such a 1950s road side stop!

I'm looking for ideas for more doodles across the map, especially in the eastern half. Tornado in Oklahoma? A World Largest Ketchup Bottle or something of the like?

Doodles you could add:

Missouri -- The Arch
Iowa/Nebraska -- an ear of corn
Nebraska -- Chimney Rock
Illinois -- stylized wind blowing
Kansas -- wheat, or maybe something from the Wizard of Oz ;)
Oklahoma -- a cowboy on a horse, the world's largest praying hands

I like the tornado, but in Kansas (Oz!). Maybe the St. Louis Arch over there? For Oklahoma, a cowboy (OSU)? One of those states up north should have corn ;)
Maybe something to do with that? I like the Hoover Dam idear.

By the way, your starting gameplay idea is great :) I love this map.

I'm pretty sure that the arch was completed too late for my 1950s-era map.

The corn is certainly appropriate for Kansas, but as a road-side wonder? If you've ever driven across the country (I have thrice) you'll know that the corn is less an attraction and more a source of existential angst. After four or five STATES of corn you start to get this Sisyphean sense of dread. ](*,)

Steamboats constitute a huge part of Mississippi River history from the 19th century onwards, and I think you could successfully include one of those next to St. Louis. Definitely a tourist draw. Given the state's nickname, I think a sunflower would be a perfect doodle for Kansas. In terms of roadside attractions in Illinois, you could slap in there the ol' two story outhouse in Gays: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gays,_Illinois. It's sort of a big deal downstate..

Just one clarity issue I'm seeing here - it says hold "adjoining Route 66 cities" for a bonus - but the actual cities ON Route 66 ARE NOT TERITS. so my next guess is that any city is considered a Route 66 city? or only cities bordering the cities on Route 66? Or are the actual Route 66 cities terits and I'm just making a fool of myself? I'll apologize now since I'm betting my answer is somewhere in the first two pages of this post, but it's late for me, and i have a philosophy paper i should be working on, so forgive my laziness.

I was sort of wondering on how you settled on yellow for the route 66 cities as route markers are usually white. Or in the case of route 66 it has been around so long they are quite often rust colored =)

I do like the yellow, was just wondering.

yup, i see it........... :oops: sorry - this might be easier to understand at first glance if you placed a white three on each starting neutral - I thought that text was actually part of the map.... but then again since it says so right below the map :oops: :oops: :oops: you don't really have to

sorry i know i'm a newb but i don't like the yellow. think about if the yellow player owned a rte.66 terit, you wouldn't be able to tell what their army number is.

:lol: Alright, I get it - no more yellow! I've gone white, drawn a boot and a riverboat (credit goes to ghirrindin for a good idea), and replaced each "n3" with a more appropriate "n3" - I hope that alles klar herr kommissar.
