And they almost won. I recomend you read Harry Turtledove's Timeline 191 series. It showed how close they were to winning the war.
It was a different time. I'm well aware how close the first one was, but this isn't the 1800s. A state tries to secede now and they'd be taken down within the day.

A disproportionately high percentage of the US Army has national loyalty, not state loyalty. It's a few individual yahoos that feel any differently.

Unless of course, nuclear warheads are stored within the given state...

I think that you are overconfident on this issue.

Hopefully we won't have to find out, we are stronger together.

Don't be so sure. Texas or California decide to up and leave, they'd pose a serious challenge. Wouldn't necessarily have to resort to Civil War, but we're talking major military and economic centers, not to mention the political power they hold.

Nukes would have nothing to do with it. If the Feds were to launch a nuke on a brother state, even if was seceding, it would be a major political disaster.

Ah, yes, I suppose that would pose a problem

I think we are still a good ways from open civil war.

Thousands and thousands of days I'd wager.

Rick Perry is a fucking blowhard. Get him the f*ck out of here.

The state I live in is full of a lot of idiots.

I'm so glad Rick Perry said over and over he wouldn't take stimulus money, but then there are overpasses being built in my town using stimulus money.

He is a posturing fool.

Please explain exactly what you expected Obama to fix in his first 6 months
Do you think that Perry is helping to fix anything by just throwing his toys out of his pram and crying that he doesn't want to play, do you not suspect that he is just a posturing wanabee ?

I see him as a defender of the Constitution and my rights.

Maybe he is posturing for a 2012 election slot.

If he holds true to the principles he professes, I would vote for him.
