This sug is about increasing lackattack's restrictions for new recruits from 5 to 16 games. The restrictions lackattack put on user accounts for the first 5 games is based upon their ability to be farmed, their tendency to deadbeat, and (I hope) to help them learn the game before trying out the toughest maps. My purpose in increasing the restrictions from 5 to 16 games (and including some additonal restrictions like "no fog") is solely to help new recruits to learn the game.alex951 wrote:I don't like he idea of New Recruits being able to join 16 game because that means more dead beating. The four game limit is sufficient to introduce the site
Thanks for clarifying QH. 16 seems like too many games how about 10?Queen_Herpes wrote:This sug is about increasing lackattack's restrictions for new recruits from 5 to 16 games. Ten would be good if incorporated with your detailed suggestion about PMs to new recruits. However, it might mean they receive a PM after every game, right?
Yes, I know about the ADD factor...we've talked about it in this thread already and are attempting to determine just how to supply the free speed games.mgourley wrote:Queen_Herpes wrote:*Attempting to solve the problem of 372895 user accounts but only 19183 active members. (November, 2009)

Queen,
I believe you missing the real reason for the poor retention rates.
It's Speed In our current ADD world, newcomers join to play NOW! Not wait possibly days between turns. I f when they joined a game, it was a speed game; I am positive the retention numbers would grow exponentially.
How to accomplish this without the negative multies issue, I have no clue. But that is the question you should be endeavoring to answer. Hopefully IT won't take another 2 years.
EDIT...don 't know how I f'ed up the quoting process.

This suggestion hopes to reach those players that bail, but more importantly this suggestion hopes to take some of the frustration away from the players that get past that initial lack of instant gratification. Those players aren't going to understand the game, the settings, and the maps and it is important to find a way to keep THOSE players as well.

I can appreciate that. Seems like it is eventually palatable. I'm really not seeing, though, where a new recruit would suffer from unlocking certain maps and settings over a short period of time? They already experience a 5 game wait.Doc_Brown wrote:Actually, I'm approaching this issue from both sides. If your suggest ends up going through, I want it to be in the most palatable form possible, though I oppose extending restrictions as a whole. In an ideal world, I'd like to think that restrictions up to 5 games aren't needed, but the truth is, people sign up, join games, and then never come back. The current situation limits the damage somewhat as well as giving people a suitable breaking-in period.Queen_Herpes wrote:That seems contrary to some of your other posts.Doc_Brown wrote:I think the current limitation works well and should be left as-is.Queen_Herpes wrote: So what do you think about the current limitation of 5 games? Shoudl it be reduced, removed, or extended?

Thank you jigger1986. Do you have any input as to how to implement the suggestion, like:jigger1986 wrote:Really like the idea, would like to see it put into effect.
Well said BruceBruceswar wrote:You do realize this is 35 pages of wasted crap. Lack will never put this into play.

The new players are not staying around. Something needs to be done to encourage them to continue playing. They currently are limited to playing only certain maps for the first five games. I didn't do that, lackattack did that. This suggestion is about increasing that limit to 16 games and bringing some introduction of the settings into the mix as well. A new recruit who current cannot play feudal war is not limited in their enjoyment of the site. Or are you suggesting that lackattack change what he already put in force two years ago by limiting new recruits? If so, please start your own suggestion. But thank you for posting here. There are other suggestions out there to prevent new recruits from playing freestyle and additionally some suggestions to add to the list of maps that new recruits cannot play in their first 5 games.BoganGod wrote:This suggestion stinks. Players and that includes new players, pay for a service, or have 4game slots to use. Limiting their options, limits their enjoyment of the site, and their opportunities to explore the site.
This comment of yours, BoganGod, "stinks." (Sorry to use the term, but it appears from what you wrote that it is an adjective you use and understand.) Yours is a terrible example and not comparable to the suggestion. But thank you for posting.BoganGod wrote:You wouldn't buy a car, if you where only allowed to drive it in 1st gear for the first 2weeks......
Again, lackattack decided before I arrived that new recruits could not play about 40 of the maps for the first 5 games. That does not prevent those players from learning and exploring. By limiting their access to maps and settings, this suggestion attempts to help ease new recruits into the site. The players that have stuck around are players who have some fortitude and who, like you, were bright enough to navigate the settings and maps to be able to be successful on the supposedly difficult ones in your early games. Kudos to you! You also mentioned quality over quantity in my posts and I think that is an excellent example for what I am attempting to do for the site. While all of the supposed "quality" players have stuck around here, I'm looking to boost the quantity of players and provide them an opportunity to become quality players over time. By encouraging the new recruits with settings that, arguably, are easier, or, better said, allowing them to master one-skill-at-a-time, I am hoping they will 1) stick around past their first games and 2) improve by mastering abilities on certain skills and maps.BoganGod wrote:Different people like different maps..... When I first started playing I had more success on maps that are considered "difficult" and less success on the "easy" maps. Everyone should have the opportunity to learn and explore.
This is not true, strictly speaking. New recruits are not able to find games on the 40 or so blocked maps. They are permitted to create their own games on any maps they choose. They can also be invited to games on any map or setting combination on this site.Queen_Herpes wrote: Again, lackattack decided before I arrived that new recruits could not play about 40 of the maps for the first 5 games.
Interesting. Can I get confirmation on this?Doc_Brown wrote:This is not true, strictly speaking. New recruits are not able to find games on the 40 or so blocked maps. Can they get invited to the blocked maps? And you referenced settings. Which settings are they "blocked" from?TheForgivenOne wrote:It's true.
