with fog on you would always be able to tell where people are anyway, you know the basic stratigy and each castle has different recognisable characteristics so you can tell by the game log where people are...

I myself dont really see the problem with that, i already know half the time where everybody is in AoR: Might just by their attack strategy
actually for a player that has no idea what the map is about there will still be plenty of confusion as some bonuses are still the same. as for those that can read the log in fog it makes no difference. as bryguy said if you know how to look at the log you'll figure out all the locations.
