Lol, I really don't understand all of the computer jargon there, but what I got was that someone needs to create a script or something, and then it'll work? Well I'm glad that this thread is hopefully helping to figure out why this isn't reality yet.

basically, a MOD is a change to the code, we need someone to make a version that will allow them to block leaders from viewing logs ;)

Thanks for the explanation, now it makes some sense :). Is it hard to do, or are people just not interested?

It's not that hard to do if you're familiar with phpBB sessions and php coding

It is, in fact, necessary that a MOD be written, there is no way to give someone moderator permissions without giving them permissions to view the moderator logs, unless logs are disabled for all moderators. ;)

Which... goes to show you don't know everything you think you know. ;)

It's not exactly a high priority for Lack at the moment I wouldn't think. However, since blakebowling is so astute it seems, perhaps he should get around to writing the MOD himself. Clearly it isn't that difficult according to him. :lol:

Oh I'm not saying that it's necessarily Lack's responsiblity, I know that he's got alot to sort out right now, and I'm not saying that Blake should have to do it either, I just think that someone who's interested in it, and who knows how to do it should make it. I'd do it, but I don't even know what phpBB stands for, lol :oops:.

PHPBB is Hypertext Processor Bulliten Board

I'm working on something now, even though I don't have much experience writing MOD's

that was easier than I thought, and it didn't even require a code modification, just two small SQL queries

lack needs to run this in phpmyadmin

Code: Select all

UPDATE phpbb_modules SET module_auth = 'acl_m_warn' WHERE module_basename = 'notes';
UPDATE phpbb_modules SET module_auth = 'acl_m_warn' WHERE module_basename = 'logs';

(If the database prefix isn't 'phpbb_' he'll need to change it)

Anyone with permissions to give warnings can view moderator logs.

BTW: I was assuming that current moderators had the permission to give warnings via the MCP (not just by sending warning PM's)

You're not the best at making assumptions.

I picked something that I knew clan moderators wouldn't get.

Might be a good idea, but it would be better if they could fix it :?. Though that will be an option that I'll have to look into depending on how the code writing stuff goes.

Topics merged:

Usergroup / Clan Leaders Powers - posts 2 July 2008 to 25 October 2008 - first post here
Granting Private Forum Moderator Privileges to Clan Leaders - posts 25 to 26 October 2008 - first post here

Note the very first post in the merged thread which makes it clear that this feature is something that can only be added by a MOD (an update) being made to the PHPBB software which Conquer Club uses for its forums. Hence for this MOD to be provided interested users should post in the PHPBB forums; using the link provided in the very first post.

FWIW - you could've written that...

Code: Select all

UPDATE phpbb_modules SET module_auth = 'acl_m_warn' WHERE module_basename = 'notes' or module_basename = 'logs'

Also - Semicolons aren't required syntax for SQL.

In MYSQL using them both on one line and not having a semicolon is fine, but in some older versions of oracle and firebird (which phpBB3 can be ran on) require it. I just followed the MOD'er rule of thumb to make sure it would work with all databases (even though 99% of people use MYSQL)

and cpurcell, yes, I'm pretty sure we do have it

As the board is now phpBB 3.0.3, moderators can only see logs for forums that they moderate. I guess all that's left to do is grant privelages to the leaders.
