I must admit that I never would have seen the avatar except for this thread. Hopefully I will never see it again. I am of mixed opinions here. For example, the flames forum, I go there very rarely because of the trashy type of people who do go there.

Except for this thread I would never have seen that Avatar. But we all pick our Avators for a reason that is important to us and I know that there are more avatars than just his that upsets us.

So we may never know what the reasonwas that it was used. Maybe for shock value, maybe not.

But in order to see the Avator you have to make an effort, a couple of computer clicks to get to it, another words you have to want to see it. It is not blatantly posting on the rest of the site.

I am glad it is not!! What that means is the site is watching out for us.
I know you all will continue talking about it. But do not blame the site. Lack has a hard enough time with us, and gives us To much fun to hold all the wrong as his fault.

I'm not sure anyone is honestly blaming Lack, well perhaps a small minority...

Having found an image which is almost universally abhorrent, most of this thread consists of various factions promoting their particular moral, amoral or immoral lobby-groups. Each tenet has been explored via negative association.

Some have used it to identify the contradiction that a graphic image of open brain-surgery is acceptable, yet a pair of breasts is not.
'Is the naked chest of only the female of the species, the plaything of Satan!?'

Some have used it in their call to get rid of Flame wars, with the argument: 'you guys are so disgusted by this image.. Flame Wars is the essence of that image!'

And some have used it as a tool to call for a blanket ban on all offensive imagery and text. A call to arms for censorship.. ‘Do it for the kids!’

Naw, I could not concentrate then.

Get rid of flame wars, well I do not think that will go over, at all, either.

There was a few references saying to get it off the site, that was why I wrote what I wrote.

I've had many many avatars, some of them were good, others... not so much... But the last one I had, which was a painting of Aphrodite and you could see her bare breasts, I think, was perfectly fine. It was not pornography, nor was disgusting or violent. It was a painting of a beautiful woman. And I don't see why I can't have a work of art as my avatar, yet he can have something so grotesque as his.

BTW, I'll keep searching for MY avatar

An Avatar that brings out how or what you are to so many others. Something that when they look at it it say's That is Hector who I enjoy playing and is an enjoyable player and has truthfully earned my respect.

RT's point is a good one of course....its just hard to know where to draw the line. I do hope no kid sees this, or anyone with a queasy stomach, but im sure they will simply hit ignore and be done with it.

I think once CC grows even more, its possible there will be an entire G rated area, so no swearing, flaming, or similar avatars would be visible. It would relieve a lot of the complaints from people that dont wish to see some things, not to say it should open up mayhem on the main site.

Its unfortunate for young kids that porn, violence and profanity are widely used on the internet, but most parents know this, and should really keep their kids under close observation.

As far as adults seeing this, it is annoying, obviously because anyone who doesnt have an adverse reaction is a doctor, nurse or a sociopath.. but we are probably old enough to click ignore and move on. I for one do wish it were a nice pair of silicone implants though...having that image stuck in my mind, even for a moment, would have been far more agreeable.

In the end, keeping kids from doing things that kids do is mostly an endless task. Its the adults responsibility to keep it from going too far, but to also accept some things that are just inevitable, even some things that many adults would consider offensive.

The mods shouldn't be choosing which avatar is right for us though. They should be upholding a set of standards and rules, and if this persons avatar is acceptable, then surely a work of art should be too.

But my point here is , and it may not have been this way all along, is. It is not on his one post it is only on his profile. So to me that means it is not an issue. If I had to look at it in a post then I would have PM'd someone and NOT made an issue of it.

My problem is of course I am not a debater. but you do seem to be a Master of it. I take the Indian (american) approach. If I can't fish it, hunt it, scalp it, ride it and it isn't female then I ignore it.

My dictionary says pornography (along with pornographic) means to "intended to stimulate erotic, rather than aesthetic or emotional response". Also, I kinda did the whole timing thing on purpose, as to prove a point. I can't have a beautiful piece of art as my avatar, as it shows bare breasts (even though many have had pornographic avatars in the past, it's just that those girls were clothed), yet something such as brain surgery is okay, though almost all of us find it disturbing and wish for it to be removed.

Good point hecter. With all the pre-teen and teenage boys on here, bare breasts most likely stimulates an erotic thought. Of course, this I have to assume (and have been told), never having been a teenage boy myself.

Yes it's obvious it's classic art.... we're not pooh-poohing art, goodness knows we could use an influx of culture around here. I can't speak for the rest of the teenage boys here, but I didn't find my avatar to be erotic in anyway. Also, don't you think THIS GUYS avatar kinda crosses that line? Personally, I consider a graphic picture of an open brain to be FAR worse than a painting of breasts.
