I concur.. It was hard for me to Gulp being a Longhorn and watching Sweed drop that TD and that pass last game too, but it was vindication to see him lay out Ivey.

What a job Burger did though on that call, he deserves an Oscar for that performance.

Congrats to the Pittsburgh Steeler organization, the Rooneys, and Mike Tomlin. You guys didn't win just a football game...you won a war tonight!

I hope Willis McGahee is going to ok after that hit!

The talk on the Dan Patrick radio show is that Warner would probably get his name in Canton with a good showing today. I would have to agree.

That's the last I've heard too...So, after I knew for sure that the Ravens weren't gonna win, I turned off the game...Any thing other than that hit that was exciting in the 4th quarter?

Only Polumalu's awesome return, thus sealing the victory and showing Ed Reed who the best safety in the open field with he football truly is.

Ravens’ McGahee expected to have complete recovery...
NFL News wrote:The Ravens released a brief statement on Monday updating the status of RB Willis McGahee, who was carted off the field during Sunday’s AFC Championship Game after taking a hard hit to the helmet (video) by Steelers safety Ryan Clark.

McGahee was released from a hospital in Pittsburgh early this morning and returned to Baltimore. He is expected to make a complete recovery from head and neck injuries.

“It was a heck of a hit, for one thing,” Baltimore coach John Harbaugh said on Sunday. “Your first thought is obviously concern for Willis. Once we got out there, and hearing the doctors talk and see him move around, you felt like it was going to be OK. Both sides obviously had concerns, but we were happy it was not immediately serious at that point.”
Hines Ward wrote:“It was a typical, hard-hitting, physical game, It’s the way every Baltimore-Pittsburgh game is. Sometimes guys get hit so hard, you don’t know if they’re going to get up.”

Reeds has better interception ability. Polumalu has better hitting ability.

LOL! put that shit away. Troy Polamalu has a lot of impact on every Pittsburgh game as was seen yet again yesterday... blitzing, making open field tackles, tipping passes, the int for a TD and going over the top to grab Flacco when the Ravens attempted a quarterback sneak on 4th and a foot in Steeler territory.

So glad Ed Reed managed 2 tackles yesterday, but where was he when Santonio Holmes caught that pass and scampered 65 yards for the Steelers first touchdown? I think both of those guys are great defensive players that every offense has to be aware of all the time, but in comparison Troy Polamalu definitely had the better game yesterday.

Flacco ended the day with Ø touchdowns/ 3 interceptions and probably should have made a few more tosses into the Pittsbugh endzone, because looking back those were their most effective plays of the game.

Please re read my post....I said Polamalu is the better safety with the ball. It wasn't discussing who is the better all around safety. It was about INT returns, which they are both quite good at.

PS GFY, Steeler haters.

Hey man there both great, but IMO Ed Reed with the ball is a bigger threat then Polamalu is. Yeah he made an amazing cut back to get the 2 blocks on Willis and Flacco for him to jump by a lineman that didn't even try to tackle him on the 4 yd line to get that TD, but Ed Reed is superman.

If it had been him with the ball, their wouldn't have been a chance of someone stopping him, what he creates with his legs and vision when he gets the ball is nothing short of amazing.

Pick 6 Reed

FYI I support neither Steeler Nation or Rat Birds, just telling it how I see it

Um... did you see it yesterday? Troy Polamalu made a great catch, maintaining his balance and reversing field before running through all those Ravens players with no chance of anyone stopping him as he created with his legs and vision... what he does with the ball is nothing short of amazing.

Polamalu was the bigger threat yesterday
as he willed himself to be a factor in that game.

Ed Reed...41 Tackles. 9 INTS. 16 Deflections. 2 TDs.
Troy Polamalu...73 Tackles. 7 INTS. 17 Deflections. 0 TDs.
These are 2008 Regular Season stats from NFL.com

They're both great, but if I were a GM, I'm going with Ed Reed, because I love his big play ability. However, if I just want a great safety, playing his position the best way it can be played, I'm going with Polamalu...

In short...Troy Polamalu=Perfect Safety. Ed Reed=Big Plays+athleticism

Never said Troy wasnt the bigger threat yesterday, yes he was, but I believe that also to be because Pittsburgh wasnt stupid and game planned around Ed Reed, maybe 2 balls all day were thrown on the side of the field where Ed Reed was lurking.

No doubt Polamalu was a dominating factor in this and most Steeler games.

However, go check for that video on You Tube, he made the catch made a cut to reverse his direction and picked up 2 hellacious blocks to skate past a offensive linemen on the 5 who didnt care that he was trying to go in the end zone. Ed Reed could have done this BLINDFOLDED

You know what I'll do you one better.

Good people of CC you be the judge.

If you could choose who would you want as a Safety in the open field?

Troy Polamalu 2008 Season
  • Regular Season Int = 7/59yds/0TD/Long of 23
    Post Season Int = 1/40yds/1TD/Long of 40
    Regular Season Deflections = 24
    Post Season Deflections = 3
Regular Season Tackles Total = 73/0 Sacks
Post Season Tackles Total = 7/0 Sacks
    Regular Season Fumbles = 0/0/0TD
    Post Season Fumbles = 0/0/0TD

Ed Reed 2008 Season
  • Regular season Int = 9/264yds/2TD/Long of 107
    Post Season Int = 2/76yds/1TD/Long of 64
    Regular Season Deflections = 25
    Post Season Deflections = 5
Regular Season Tackles Total = 41/1 Sack
Post Season Tackles Total = 7/0 Sacks
    Regular Season Fumbles = 1 Forced/2 Recovered/1 TD
    Post Season Fumbles = 0/0/0TD

Couldn't find on internet, 32 yd Interception Return

Troy has 32 more tackles then Ed in regular season play, and ED REED has him matched or beat in every other category in regular season and post season.

Ed Reed definitely has him beat in the BIG PLAY CAPABILITY category

What would be crazy is if Ed Reeds and Polamalu somehow ended up on the same team.

Any team would be better off with either one of them on their defense
and speaking of teams here's another stat...

With Ed Reed --FS-- 2002-2008, the Ravens have won the division once,
making the postseason three times with a playoff record of 2-3.
Baltimore is 1-0 overall in Super Bowls.

With Troy Polamalu --SS-- 2003-2008, the Steelers have won the division three times,
made the postseason four times, with a playoff record of 7-2, won Super Bowl XL
and are making their second Super Bowl appearance in four years.
Pittsburgh is 5-1 overall in Super Bowls

Here's a bit of Steeler/Cardinals NFL trivia... if you're asked that $100,000 sports challenge question.
During WWII (1944) Pittsburgh's team was merged with Chicago's Cardinals for one season and known
as Card-Pitt, with their 0-10 record sportswriters called them the "carpets." They even lost twice to
the Detroit Lions. The previous year Pittsburgh had been combined with Philadelphia as the Steagles!

I don't think that's a fair comparison to make when judging two players. The Steelers have had a good offense to back up their d, the Ravens' O has been questionable at best.

Any comparison of two individuals in the NFL is hard to make. Put Tom Brady on the Lions, and they don't win the Superbowl. It is about rosters and schemes. Reed vs Polamalu is interesting since they are both so dynamic. A strong safety doesn't get as many pass defense attempts, since he also supports the run stop unit. Of course I am biased, being a Steeler fan. Where is that youtube video of Troy returning an int against the Bengals, where he levels Carson Palmer at the goal line...that was an awersome run back too.
