Even bigger hint: its a sci-fi turn-based strategy game. Released in 1998.

Those are next gen graphics right there. Besides UT guys look like tanks rather than actual humans.

yeah they are next gen graphics...

it ain't UT

I'll see if I can find another pic at home without none of the school's "forbidden filters" but for now some hints:

xbox 360 and I think ps3

the developer is surprisingly a rather big company that has never done anything within the genre before

I don't think it's due for PS3, otherwise I would have recognized it.
The closest bad guess I can come up with it Bioshock.
