Little known fact: Nickleback were actually a kick-ass rock band for their first, and parts of their second album. Everything went downhill once How You Remind Me became a huge hit. They realized they could sell zillions of albums if they would just continue to write the same boring bullshit over, and over again.

They are now a hugely successful business. All they had to do was give up any artistic integrity they may have had.

I went to see them with my wife in Dublin last year and... to my eternal embarrassment... at one point they were shouting "We say Nickel, You say Back!" which seems fair enough when you think about it.
Sadly I was far too drunk to think at this stage and, as we were stood near a speaker was half deaf too so, somewhat inexplicably, I was sure they said "We say Ni**er, you say Black!".
I glared with disgust at the rest of the audience and was shocked that they would join in such a racist chant! I even commented to the missus on the way out how I could only see whites coming out. She, for very good reasons, didn't know what the hell I was on about and it was only when driving home the next day when I went "Oooohhh! THAT's what they were saying..." when she realised just what a twat she'd actually married! She still laughs at me now over it. And happily tells everyone we meet too...

that is a winner of an anecdote for sure. good job

I own their first album. I like their first album. That's about it for me though.

As you said, they make boatloads of loot now; so, maybe it's worth it for them.

This. They were a lot grittier back in the day. My girlfriend is still a fan, so I've been to one of their recent concerts. They do perform rather well, in their defense.

On a surprisingly related note (and I can't remember if I've discussed this on this forum already or not), my girlfriend and I were listening to Nickelback on the radio in the car one day, and they were doing their typical editing which brought up a discussion on current editing guidelines. I find these guidelines to be completely bass ackward. Kroeger can talk fairly graphically about sex and drinking and generally being a douchebag, but if the kids hear him say "shit" their tiny heads will pop in a mess of gory understanding. It's a bit silly to me. Be consistent and edit all of the lewd content out (the whole song in many cases), or don't edit it all. What the hell?

Rather hilarious facebook group pits Nickelback against a pickle in a contest for popularity. The pickle is almost as popular now and gaining ground.

thats an amazing song...like all music with me i rarly like a groups entire music (except for taylor and rascal flatts) but i do like specific songs from almost every artist

I might possibly dislike nickleback more than any other band. Dunno if dislike is strong enough a word. Detest is too strong as it inherently implies a certain amount of care. I would be content if I could erase all reference of them from my memory and to never come across them again.
