On this day the 25th of april 95 years ago ANZAC troops (Australia New Zealand Army Core) engaged the German led Turkish troops on the beaches of Gallipoli. Every year New Zealand, Australia and Turkey pay thier respects to their fallen countrymen. I have set up this to post so that anyone who wishes to pay their respects on this website may do so.

Ode To The Fallen

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, then President of Turkey, Formerly Turkish Divisional Commander 19th Division Anzac Cove 1915 sent the following words in 1934 to an ANZAC and British & Irish party visiting Anzac Cove :-

"Those heroes that shed their blood, and lost their lives ...

You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country.

Therefore, rest in peace.

There is no difference between the Johnnies

And the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side,

Here in this country of ours.

You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries ...

Wipe away your tears.

Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace.

After having lost their lives on this land, they have

Become our sons as well."

Perhaps the most affecting words spoken of war dead which I have read.
