I currently play a game where I've announced where one of my opponents are on the map that I can see, and he stated that this is breaking the rules.
I've not found anything about this being against the rules, so i wonder if anyone could clarify this for me.

It's not against the rules. It can get you on foe-lists, though.
For all your opponents know, you aren't even telling the truth in game chat.

This is correct. It is NOT against the rules of the game. However it is allowed to give out (or recieve) appriopriate ratings, so be advised.
And making false statements in gamechat regarding the position and number of players is also NOT against the rules.
SO lie to your hearts content, just make sure you win the game

I bullshite consistently thru most FOG Term games and most of the usual players know the drill and do the same BUT tell the truth about it (when it matters, not just to throw off the scent) and it's pretty low...the only time it is really crass is when some asshole officer gets wiped and gives position and troop numbers so others can cut down on points loss...in a standard game it's crap and should be FOED...in a Term game when there's not even any points advantage and it's just sour games, it should require an instant firing squad...and not specifically referring to a recently-vacated bald cigar smoker...lol

This is why Lack created FOE lists and ratings, Firing squads are on the to do list...

Many people consider it poor form to reveal locations in foggy games, as it defeats the purpose and fun of playing in fog. As noted though, it is not against the rules. But don't be surprised if you get foed by one or more of the people in that game.
