A Little Bit of Doodling [Winner: TheSaxlad]

by WorldCup4James
For those of you addicted to Doodle Earth, this simple tournament is for you. "A Little Bit of Doodling" will challenge 16 players not only in 1v1 games, but also in 4-player Standard and assassin games. Along with getting some more practice on Doodle, I am also testing a scoring system that I may use in future tournaments. Please consider joining! Thanks!

The 16 spots in the tournament are all taken; I am now accepting reserves!

I ask all players to join tournament games within 72 hours, please (that should be plenty of time)! If you should need additional time, I will allow it if you notify me. If a player does not join, they will be replaced by a reserve.
Universal Settings
ALL tournament games will have be played with the following settings.

Doodle Earth Map
Automatic Initial Troops
Sequential Play Order
Escalating Spoils
Chained Reinforcements
No fog of war
Casual Round Length
Each player will be guaranteed 5 games, to be played in the following order:
  • 1, 4-player Standard game
  • 3, 1v1 games: 1 game against each opponent in group
  • 1, 4-player Assassin game
Scoring System
  • Winning a 1v1 game: +2 points
  • Winning the Standard game: +3 points
  • Winning the Assassin game: +3 points
Therefore, the maximum number of points a player can earn in the group is 12 points. The 1v1 games account for 6 of the 12 points (50%), and the other two 4-player games account for the other 6 (50%) of the points.

Upon joining, each player will be randomly assigned, using random.org, into 1 of 4 groups. In the group the player is assigned to, the player is also assigned a random number, #1 through #4. Once all 16 players have joined, there are 4 groups of 4 players each.

Stage I

The 3 phases shall take place in the following order.

The Standard Phase

The four players in each group will play in one, 4-player Standard game on Doodle Earth using the Universal Settings. The winner of the game earns 3 points.

The 1v1 Phase

As previously mentioned, in each group there is a #1, #2, #3, and #4 player (randomly assigned upon joining). Players will play in 2-player games on the Doodle Earth map with the Universal Settings.
Players will face off in this fashion:
  • Round 1
    #1 player vs. #4 player
    #2 player vs. #3 player
  • Round 2
    #1 player vs. #3 player
    #2 player vs. #4 player
  • Round 3
    #1 player vs. #2 player
    #3 player vs. #4 player
Each player earns 2 points per win in this phase.

The Assassin Phase

The four players in each group will play in one, 4-player Assassin game on Doodle Earth using the Universal Settings. The winner of the game earns 3 points.

After all 3 phases, the 2 players in each group with the most points advance to the next stage of the tournament.
Tiebreaker System
In the event that 2 players have the same number of points, then the 2 players will fight in a 1v1 Tiebreaker Match on Doodle Earth with the Universal Settings. The winner of the tiebreaker game is ranked higher than the loser of the game.

In the event that more than 2 players have the same number of points, then a Standard game shall be created in which only the tied players face each other. The winner of the game is ranked highest. The player that placed in second place is ranked next highest. The player that placed in third place is ranked next highest, etc. See Example I.

Example I: Charles, Billy Ray, and Henry each have 4 points after all 3 phases. Therefore, they play in a 3-player Standard tiebreaker game on Doodle Earth with the Universal Settings. Billy Ray wins the game, so he is ranked highest. Charles gets second place, so he is ranked next highest. Henry gets third place, so he is ranked lowest of all three players.
After all 3 phases, the 2 players that are ranked the highest (the 2 players with the most points; tiebreakers applied if necessary) in each group advance. The rest of the players are eliminated from the tournament. Therefore, 8 players advance, and 8 are eliminated.
Stage II
Stage II

In Stage II, the 8 players are randomly divided into 2 groups of 4 players, using the Sequence Generator on random.org.
The aforementioned phases (Standard, 1v1, and Assassin) shall take place in the same order again in Stage 2, using the same Universal Settings, Scoring System and Tiebreaker System (repeating the entire method again).
After all 3 phases of Stage II, the 2 players that are ranked the highest (the 2 players with the most points; tiebreakers applied if necessary) in each group advance. The rest of the players are eliminated from the tournament. Therefore, 4 players advance, and 4 are eliminated.
Stage III
Stage III
In Stage III, the last 4 players remaining are placed in 1 group of 4 players.
The aforementioned phases (Standard, 1v1, and Assassin) shall take place in the same order again in Stage 2, using the same Universal Settings, Scoring System and Tiebreaker System (repeating the entire method again).
The player with the most number of points after Stage III is proclaimed the winner of the tournament and the Most Daring Doodler.

Thank you for considering. To play, just click on "Post Reply" and write "I'm in". You will receive a private message upon entrance into the tournament. Once the tournament begins, I will post a standings board on the next post. I ask that you join your games within 72 hours, please

Thanks,
James :)

1v1 Phase Underway

Posted: Wed May 04, 2011 10:07 pm
by WorldCup4James
The Standard Phase has finished for all groups, the Standings have been updated, and the first round of the 1v1 phase has begun for all groups.

The standings board can be found on the third post on Page 1, along with game links for each group.

Each win in the 1v1 phase is worth 2 points, so those that won the Standard game have in no way secured a spot in the next round. They still have to work hard to earn a spot in the next round, since the Standard game was only worth 25% of the points. The 3 1v1 games total 50% of the possible points...

May 6 Standings Update

Groups A, B and D have finished Round 1 of the 1v1 phase. I have created the next round for those groups. I have updated the standings

Once Group C finishes Round 1 (they both have 1 game left), I will update the standings again and create that group's games.

Remember, the matchups, the scoring system, and the standings can ALL be found on the third post on Page 1.

Standings Updated. Round 3 of 3 made for Groups A and B. Round 2 of 3 made for Group C.

Group D: still 1 game left in Round 2.

Those of you beginning your last 1v1 game, give it your best shot. It's your last chance to secure those valuable 2 points. It goes onto the 3-point assassin game after that...
